Description
Series 2, episode 13 of the Sustainability Champions podcast ?
Introducing Sumedhaa Kothari, Founder of By.Sume, a clothing brand that is challenging fast fashion by making clothing from upcycled materials at affordable prices.
Based in the US, Sumedhaa attended the University of California, Berkeley where she graduated with a degree in Cognitive Science. Starting her career at Google, and continuing her career at the FinTech company Stripe, Sumedhaa decided to launch her own circular-based clothing brand for customers online around the world.
Sumedhaa has made a variety of clothing items out of bed skirts, plastic, and leaves. She even turned seaweed into a one-shoulder floor-length gown!
For Sumedhaa, her brand is about more than just offering an alternative to fast fashion–through her creativity she is able to create wearable pieces of art that cater to her customers’ sustainable lifestyles. By building a community of followers and customers, Sumedhaa is on a mission to create awareness of the environmental issues of fast fashion and the direct impacts it has on climate change.
