Description

In this bonus episode of Ask the Expert, Annie & Leah interview Chanelle Andrews CBS about her experience working with a dream team of non-local lactation colleagues to sponsor a virtual screening of Death by Delivery as an advocacy event for Black Maternal Health Week. Spoiler alert: it was a big success. Chanelle Andrews owns and operates her own practice, Hey Mama Lactation and Perinatal Care, while also interning as a breastfeeding peer counselor at WIC. During her experience as a new mother, while struggling to figure out all the things including breastfeeding, Chanelle longed for a community of women who were dealing with the same things.Throughout her own journey, she realized she didn’t look like or share the same experiences as most of the other women around her. Chanelle is a strong advocate for bringing to light the black maternal mortality crisis in the US. While her plans to run a community event around this topic had to be changed, that didn’t stop her and other lactation professionals from holding an incredible event online instead.“There are people who are just there and they're listening and they're taking it all in, but they don't really want the interaction component. And I said, okay, I'll accept that. You know, cause that actually is true.” In this episode, we will cover:Coordinating and planning a virtual event onlineEnabling virtual networking during eventEstablishing housekeeping and general respectEducating dominant culture individuals on censorshipThe benefits of virtual events over in person events Like this episode? Hi, we’re Annie & Leah!Cohosts of the Lactation Business Coaching PodcastIn this podcast, you will learn the smart way to create a compassionate and professional lactation private practice, We barely knew each other when we got on the phone to explore podcasting, but within minutes we were chatting openly about our experiences, challenges, hopes, and dreams for our businesses. There was no need for us to have to explain terms and definitions or spend time trying to explain why our business was important to one another. And there was no need to justify, explain, or validate the stories, frustrations, and wins we shared. We both already understood and it was a relief to open up with someone else about things that you only talk about only when you’re with other lactation consultants. That conversation between two friends opening up about our experience in the lactation field was the start of the Lactation Business Coaching Podcast. We share a passion for compassionate and professional private practice, meeting our business goals while helping families reach their feeding goals. Each time we talk, we learn something new and we’re inspired to keep ongoing. We’ve now been podcasting for 4 years plus we’ve hosted more than 20 Deeper Dives featuring special guests covering everything from productivity, pandemic fatigue, imposter syndrome, marketing and private practice.Tune in each week to learn all the ins and outs of running a successful private practice lactation business!Learn more and join our next Deeper DiveFollow us on YouTubeFollow us on InstagramLeah Jolly is a private practice IBCLC with Bay Area Breastfeeding in Houston, Texas.
