Description

Camaraderie and a support system are an important part of what makes a job welcoming. For women in construction, who find themselves in this male-dominated space, reaching out isn’t always so simple. This is what prompted today’s guest, Kathryn Hart, to create the online community, Space to Build, where women in the sector can access various resources from educational material to social networks. As a construction superintendent, Kathryn knows how difficult being a woman in the space can be, and she has always been proactive in forming the groups she wanted to see. We hear about how watching HGTV piqued her interest in the space and how she ultimately found her dream degree at Virginia Tech. Kathryn then touches on some of the obstacles she faces, including getting hit on and being overlooked. These challenges have come with their own difficult responses, which Kathryn elaborates on. Along with this, we also delve into Space to Build’s mission, learn some details about her upcoming podcast, and hear her future outreach plans. Be sure to tune in today!
