Description
Engineering is a typical example of a field that has been traditionally male-dominated. Our guest today, Amy Kaur, and her online community Engineering Gals, are doing a great job in trying to disrupt this status quo. Amy is a civil engineer in training, employed in the water industry. She is a graduate of California State University Long Beach, where she received a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. In our conversation, we get to hear how the hours spent with her father, fixing up old cars ignited her passion for the ways things work and fit together. Amy also explains what it meant to grow up in a family with only daughters and the prejudices that sparked her passion for shifting mindsets and practices around gender roles. We talk about male-dominated classrooms and boardrooms and how Amy's philosophy towards being a woman in these spaces has evolved. Our guest talks about mentors, mindfulness and so much more that you are not going to want to miss. Looking at Engineering Gals, it is clear how impactful communities such as these can be, opening doors and broadening horizons for so many! Listen in to hear it all!
