Description
There is a persistent gender gap in STEM careers across the world. This gap begins in education, fueled by gender stereotypes and expectations regarding “women’s work,” but one woman in STEM is looking to stomp out those stereotypes! Today’s guest Chloe Gharios, a Civil Engineer working in the power industry in Los Angeles. She has a passion for giving back to the community and taking part in educating the next generation, especially females and young students in disadvantaged schools, in the opportunities that STEM careers can provide them. Chloe became a STEM influencer on social media in order to break the persistent stereotypes of women in STEM, and to show that you do not have to be put in a societal box to succeed. She recently started the #stompingoutstereotypes movement, and many women from all over the world have been able to put their spin on what it looks like to “be both.” In this episode, Chloe shares a bit about her experience, growing the women in STEM community, and being a mentor for students. She also talks about the #stompingoutstereotypes challenge and the role social media has in changing the environment for women in STEM. Tune in today!
