Description

Play therapy provides a safe space for children to express their emotions, improve communication, and develop problem-solving skills. However, kids coming from diverse backgrounds may only have access to the tools that fail to represent their outward appearance and feelings. This inspired James to launch a variety of products that support all ages in identifying a range of emotions while promoting self-awareness, and encouraging continuous exposure to other languages.

Join us in today’s episode as Doctor TK and James review the lack of clinically appropriate play therapy tools for children of color, followed by ways to address this issue. James also shares how his schedule has improved after scaling his business and the huge impact of having accountability partners.

Standout Quotes from James:
"But there weren't any tools provided by the agency that reflected us, so people wanted us to find something; we had to go out and buy it ourselves, and that was for me, sometimes it reimburses where the most kind of things but most often, not that specific kind of tool." (12:48)

I want to continue on this path of expanding our sense of identity and connecting to these cultures (...) so that we can continue to develop and remain curious about who we are as individuals and our identity. (15:13)

"It's really just looking at time differently, creating that vision for oneself, and maintaining a relationship with that vision. Don't just put it on the side." (26:13)

Standout Quotes from Doctor TK:
"I'm just putting a tip out there for our students and clinicians that if you're on a site and what you're doing and the tools that you have if they don't really resonate with your clients so that it can trigger them to become vulnerable when they open up and talk about their emotions, you actually need to say something." (13:13)

"One thing that I wanna sum up with circles of influence is that it's okay to have multiple accountability partners who serve different roles in your life." (27:46)
