During the 3rd North American PhD by Design symposium, hosted online between the 5th and 10th of April, 2021, the Design in Transition team hosted a Conversation with different doctoral and master's students from across the globe. The discussion took interesting turns as we discussed different approaches on how to define design, bridging the academy and industry, how to develop practice-based research and how to do so in environments or places that do nor align with the Anglo-European design classroom. How can a PhD in Design shape the way we practice design and the way industry approaches design? Is our academic research actually having an impact in "the real world"?
