Description

Stearic acid is an 18 carbon saturated fat that has intriguing effects on the human body. It's been shown to positively affect mitochondrial activity, and diets that are low in cause mitochondria to change activity and phenotype in negative ways. Mouse models of this fatty acid also suggest some profoundly powerful effects on glucose tolerance and visceral fat when compared to oleic acid (18C monounsaturated fat), and linoleic acid (18C polyunsaturated fat). I break it all down in this video and share my RBC fatty acid levels as well as a compelling n=1 case study of Emmy's weight loss with dietary shifts away toward more stearic acid and less linoleic acid.    Check us out at Heart & Soil (www.heartandsoil.co) if you need more nose to tail nutrition in your life! Firestarter (our high stearic acid tallow from suet) and Gut & Digestion release this week!    You can also follow us at @heartandsoilsupplements on IG.   Controversial thoughts: How to get Omega-3 without Rancid Fish Oil and why Linoleic acid makes you Fat.  With levels of linoleic acid consistent with our evolutionary past, omega-3s aren't an issue if you are eating nose to tail! I also talk about CLA, how linoleic acid makes you fat. Check us out at www.heartandsoil.co  and @heartandsoilsupplements on instagram to get nose to tail nutrition!

Throughout my training and practice as a physician I have come to one very disappointing conclusion: Western medicine isn’t helping people lead better lives. Now that I’ve realized this, I’ve become obsessed with understanding what makes us healthy or ill. I want to live the best life I can and I want to be able to share this knowledge with others so that they can do the same. This podcast is the result of my relentless search to understand the roots of chronic disease. If you want to know how to live the most radical life possible I hope you’ll join me on this journey.
