In this podcast, Dr. Berg talks about Lectins. Lectins are proteins in certain foods that have a couple of purposes and one is it acts as a survival mechanism to protect the plant. Lectin is considered a poison that keeps the insects away. It also helps the communication between the cells. When a person is sensitive to lectins, they could have an inflammatory condition that creates a leaky gut which then can lead to an autoimmune problem. He also talks about what would make someone more sensitive to lectins than others.
Foods High in Lectins:
• Beans
• Legumes (peanuts/soy)
• Whole Grains
• Nightshades (peppers, eggplant, tomatoes)
• Animal Products – animals who consume grains
Lectin Sensitivity:
• Cruciferous Vegetables
• Leafy Greens
• EM – Effective Microbes (Good Probiotic) / Take it before you go to bed.
