Muffin, Puffin, and Tuffin Find a Purse
One fine, sunny day, Muffin, Puffin, and Tuffin asked their mother if they could go to the park. Yes,
she said, but come home in time for lunch.
So off they went. They had fun playing on the swings and slides and merry-go-round—even on the monkey bars! In fact, they were having such a good time they forgot Mama's warning about going home for lunch.
Mama looked at the clock and thought they should be home by now. Maybe I'd better go to the park and pick them up, she thought. So she hopped into her van and headed to their favorite spot. At first, she couldn't find them. But after a little while, she saw Muffin, Puffin, and Tuffin all the way out in a field, happily playing ball with other kids.
She honked her horn, but they didn't hear her. It was only when she got out of the van and walked onto the field that Muffin saw her and yelled to the others.
Here comes Mama!
he shouted. Sorry, everybody, but we have to leave now.
As they tumbled into the van, they each apologized for not getting home when their mother asked. She said it was okay this time, but from now on, they should wear their watches to be sure they came home when they should. If I see that I can trust you to follow my directions, I will want to let you go places on your own.
They got home, went inside, washed up, and had lunch. Mama told them they each had a chore to do. They weren't happy about that. They'd rather go back to the park to play. Seeing their unhappy faces, Mama said, If your chores are finished and if you do a good job, I'll let you go back to the park before dinner.
Hearing that, Muffin, Puffin, and Tuffin perked up and did a great job with the work they'd been given. This time, they agreed to be home no later than five-thirty since dinner was at six.
Muffin, Puffin, and Tuffin hoped they would find some kids so they could play ball, but when they got to the park no one was out in the field. They headed instead to the playground to wait and see if others would join them later for a ballgame. They
