About this ebook

He'll do anything for her.

I'm a dog person.
So, how did I wind up fostering fifteen cats?
The answer to that is Winnie Mae.
She runs the local animal shelter and when someone starts a fire there, I rescue her and the cats.
When she told me that they had nowhere else to go, I volunteered to take them.
Why would I do that?
Well, because I'm in love with Winnie.
Now I need to keep my woman safe… and convince her that she's meant to be mine.

Anything else that needs to be discussed? I ask as I get ready to bring this Church meeting to an end.

A few people shake their heads or murmur no, and I let out a relieved breath as I end the meeting and get ready to go. My girl should be getting ready to head home soon, and I like to follow her home. Just to make sure that she gets there safely.

Heading to stalk your girl? Drak asks as we head out, and I glare at him.

I’m not stalking her, I argue.

She’s also not your girl, he points out, and I growl at him.

He raises his hands in surrender, and I stomp ahead of him over to my bike. I met Drak in the Navy. I was a SEAL, but he was a non-operator along with Triton and Chance, two other members of the MC. They’re all solid dudes.

He’s also not wrong. Winnie isn’t mine. She barely even acknowledges that I exist. I can’t seem to get her attention, and trust me, I’ve tried.

I moved to Maplewood, Texas, a year ago. I had been shot on my last deployment and was medically discharged. I knew I didn’t want to go back to New Mexico or my family, so I threw a dart at a map and it landed on Maplewood.

I was kind of regretting it when I first got here, but then I found the Rebel Hearts MC and joined. I had always loved motorcycles and riding. The rush of the wind going by, the adrenaline, the freedom. I loved all of it. The club was a pretty natural fit, and for the first time, I felt like I belonged somewhere. Lord knows that I never had that growing up.

Two months after I moved to town, I took over as President when the last one left. It was a surprise when I was voted in, but I’ve always been a natural-born leader. At least, that’s what every drill instructor and sergeant has ever told me.

Things were going pretty okay until three months ago when a new animal sanctuary came to town. I didn’t think much of it at the time. Not until I went into town one day and saw her.

    Winnie Mae.

She was checking out at the grocery store in town, and I had stopped in to pick up a few things. She was smiling sweetly at the cashier, and I had stopped dead in my tracks and just stared at her.

She was perfection. Long red hair that was braided and hanging over one shoulder. Her green eyes had sparkled in the fading sunlight streaming in through the front windows and I swear it looked like she was glowing. She looked like a literal angel. A curvy, beautiful angel that I would love to do filthy things to.

From that moment, she threw my routine on its head. I knew she was it for me from the moment I saw her. Something about her just clicked with something in me. I was obsessed from that first look, but she never really saw me. She left the grocery store, juggling her bags, and hadn’t noticed me standing off to the side by a stand of lemons.

I tried to learn everything I could about it. I was hoping for an in, a way for her to notice me so I could ask her out, but it has yet to come.

What I do know about her is that she’s gorgeous, likes to keep to herself, loves animals, and she’s a vegetarian. She spends most of her days on the piece of land she bought when she moved here. All day long, she cares for the animals. She gets there every morning at eight, and she leaves every night at six.

I make sure that I’m there to watch over her as she goes. There’s been a lot of weird things happening in town. Thefts, attacks, and even some arson. We haven’t been able to prove anything yet, but I have an idea of who is behind it. They haven’t set their sights on Winnie yet, but it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Any new leads about the stuff in town? Drak asks me quietly as I grab my helmet off my bike.

No, not yet. The police are clueless.

Not surprised, he grunts, and I nod.

The police force in this small town is equally as small. They don’t have the resources to handle anything more than some petty crimes.

Want some of us to look into it more? Drak offers, and I stop to think.

You can try, but there doesn’t seem to be much rhyme or reason to the attacks. It’s a break-in here, then someone being attacked miles away on the other side of town. We need to figure out why those locations. I mean, the land and businesses haven’t been worth much. None of the people really have anything in common besides living in Maplewood.

Drak nods, frowning as he ponders the puzzle of what’s been going on around here.

It has to be the Vasquez Crime Family, he points out after a moment, and I nod.

I know, but we don’t know who in town is working for them or what their plan is. We need to figure it out. And fast.

He nods, and I slip my helmet on. I need to get going if
