Wicktoria and the Magic Tea Artisan - Pixie Lee

    CHAPTER 1

I’m a child of a missing wizard who was once famous. My dad was a champion for several races and treasure hunts. Everyone in my town was proud of him. Actually, I was somewhat famous too, as the daughter who brought shame to her father's reputation. In our world, wizards started showing magic abilities when they were young. They could see magical beings like fairies and unicorns and use magic items when they were infants. Typically, it happened within the first 100 days. We called it ‘blooming’ and celebrated the blooming day splendidly like a birthday. Unfortunately, while I was already sixteen, I could not bloom yet. That was why all my relatives worried about me.

Today my family gathered in my house to celebrate my young cousin Reggie’s blooming day. My grandfather was still waiting for my father to come back so he wanted to hold every family event here in my house. What if I’m not here when he’s back home? was what he always said.

Whenever we all gathered, I couldn’t help but feel downhearted and gloomy, making it challenging for me to genuinely celebrate their birthdays or blooming days. How could I be in high spirits while they were saying negative things about me? Even now, they were discussing my unpromising future.

Who does not work shall not eat, Uncle Colbee said.

Actually, we plan to open a cafe together so you don’t need to worry about her. And don’t we have to focus on Reggie’s blooming day? Mom told Uncle Colbee then called us in a loud voice. Guys, food is ready!

We all gathered in the dining room, sang a blooming day song for Reggie, and started eating. However, what Uncle Colbee said about me kept lingering in my mind, so I couldn't enjoy the food. I finished my meal faster than others and quietly came to the living room alone. On the carpet, there were gifts prepared for Reggie. I also placed my gift there.

There was a tradition on a blooming day. Family members prepared gifts for the blooming day baby and let him choose one of them. That gift could be related to the kind of magic he might specialize in the future so it was a pretty important event for the day. Of course, it could be just a superstition.

I bought a small unicorn figurine, wishing Reggie would make unicorn friends in the future. My gift was wrapped in a shimmering pastel-colored wrapping paper and ribbons. I thought I would be so happy if he picked my gift.

Is it your gift? whispered Aunt Charmaine, Reggie’s mom. I nodded yes. She picked up my gift with her thumb and index finger,
