Lena wasn't always scared of Nicholai. There was a time he made her truly happy. That happiness was soon gone when Nik slaughtered her entire family. He then found a way to control her. He manipulated her into marriage. The first chance Elias got, he helped her run so Nik couldn't find her. To this day, she hasn't heard anything of him. She was in a new town she loved. She didn't want anything to get in the way of that.

    *****

Lena walks into her kitchen to make a pot of coffee; turning around, she sees a stranger standing there.

Lena. Who are you? How'd you get in here?

Jonas. I mean you no harm, Lena.

Lena. How do you know my name?

Jonas. We have a common friend.

Lena. And who would that be?

    Jonas. Elias.

Lena. Get out! If he's here, that means Nik isn't that far behind.

Jonas. I can assure you he doesn't know we're here.

Lena. You believe that, don't you?

Jonas. Elias will be in touch.

The stranger leaves. Lena is scared that Nik will find her again, and she doesn't want that. As she sits in the tub, she can't help but wonder if he was already here. Her mind goes back to that horrible night she found her family, seeing what he had done to them. She has a flashback.

    *****

Lena comes home to find her whole family slaughtered. She runs over to her mother, breaking down crying. Hearing a noise, she looks up to see Nik standing there covered in blood.

    Lena: (Crying.) Why?

Nik: They are of no use anymore now that I have you.

Lena: You don't have me. What makes you think that I would go anywhere with you now?

Nik: (Walks over to her jerking her up by the arm.) You don't have a choice, my love.

Lena: (Jerks her arm away.) I will never be yours.

    Nik: Oh, but you will.

Biting her, she screams as he drinks to the point her pulse is weak, and her heartbeat is almost nonexistent, feeding him her blood, then draining her to death.

    *****

She tries to shake the horrible memory out of her mind. She gets out of the tub, going to bed trying to forget the horrible night she just recalled.

The next day, Lena wakes up and goes to the kitchen to make coffee. She stands in front of the pot just staring into space. She isn't brought back to reality until the pot beeps. She pours herself a cup. When she turns around, Elias is there, causing her to drop her cup.

Lena. No, you can't be here.

Elias. I assure you I am.

Lena. If you're here, then he isn't far behind.

Elias. (Walks over to her.) He doesn't know you're here, Lena.

Lena. How can you be so sure?

Elias. It was just chance that I found you. Your cloaking spell is quite impressive. Jonas couldn't find you with any locator spell he had. So you see, he couldn't know.

Lena. I'd rather die than go back to him, Elias.

Elias. (Takes her in his arms.) I know, you never will. I failed you last time, I won't make that mistake again.

Lena. (Pulls out of his arms.) You can't make that promise, Elias. There's no way you can be everywhere at once.

    Elias. You must trust me.

Lena. I trust you, but if I get a hint he's anywhere near, I won't hesitate to leave.

Elias. It won't come to that.

He kisses her forehead goodbye, leaving. As soon as the door shuts, she slides down the counter crying, remembering what happened to the little village back in the
