About this ebook
The eerie darkness from the pitfall of trees that surrounded Daniel’s home sent a shiver down his spine. He knew that there was something horrible going on deep within the woods; something so evil that he dared not to step a foot beyond the trees. Every now and then when the wind blew, he swore that he could hear the sounds of drums and what he believed to be a chanting noise drifting in the air. Arising from the porch swing; he quickly retreated back into the safety of his home. Daniel could not help but to wonder if he had made a mistake by coming here. Six months ago to the date he had lost his wife and child in a car accident then three weeks ago he was contacted by the lawyer informing him that his grandmother had passed away. He soon learned that he was the last surviving heir of the Mc George clan; he had been left everything, including this strange farmhouse house that was in dire need of repair. He had been there less than twenty-four hours and already he missed the smog and noisy city that he had left behind. As he reached over and turned out the light he wondered what this quiet little town in Owsley Kentucky held in store for him.

CHAPTER 1.
______________________
The eerie darkness from the pitfall of trees that surrounded Daniel’s home sent a shiver down his spine. He knew that there was something horrible going on deep within the woods; something so evil that he dared not to step a foot beyond the trees. Every now and then when the wind blew, he swore that he could hear the sounds of drums and what he believed to be a chanting noise drifting in the air. Arising from the porch swing; he quickly retreated back into the safety of his home.
Deciding to call it a night, he locked all the doors and windows before heading up the stairs. As he stripped down to his boxers before climbing into bed, Daniel could not help but to wonder if he had made a mistake by coming here. Six months ago to the date he had lost his wife and child in a car accident then three weeks ago he was contacted by the lawyer informing him that his grandmother had passed away.
At first Daniel was confused for he had no memory of ever meeting any of his grandparents. Neither of his parents ever spoke of them and he had just assumed that they were dead.
Daniel awoke to the smell of bacon and eggs lingering in the air. Jumping out of bed, he quickly dressed and headed down the stairs to see who the intruder was that had invaded his home. As he stepped into the kitchen he was stunned to see a beautiful brunette setting the table.
Can I help you?
He asked unable to take his eyes off her.
Good morning, your breakfast is ready.
She exclaimed cheerfully as she turned to get the coffee pot from off the old wood burning stove before joining him at the table.
I don’t mean to be rude, but who are you?
Daniel asked as he continued to stare at her.
I’m Sarah Jane Roberts,
she stated as she picked up the plate of bacon and offered it to him. I took care of your grandmother for the last two years before she passed on. I heard you were in town and figured I would come out and see if you needed some help. You were still sleeping when I came in so I thought I would make you some breakfast.
That was very nice of you, but how did you get in? I locked the doors and windows before I went to bed.
Oh, I have my own key.
She replied as she took the key from out of her apron and dangled it on her finger tip.
Daniel wasn’t sure what to think as he studied the woman sitting across from him. So, I take it that you knew my grandmother fairly well.
As well as anybody I guess. She talked about you all the time when she became ill.
Really,
Daniel eyed her skeptically. I’m surprised to hear that.
Why is that?
Sarah asked between bites.
Up until three weeks ago I didn’t even know that she even existed.
Well, too tell you the truth no one around here knew that you were alive until your grandmother fell ill.
Why is that?
From what I’ve overheard, everyone believed that your mother and you died during the delivery; they said your father was so upset that he just ran away. Don’t you like bacon and eggs?
She asked, nodding at the untouched plate sitting in front of him.
Yes, I do.
Daniel replied as he picked up the fork and plunged it into the pile of eggs.
Is your mother still alive?
Sarah asked as she watched him devour his breakfast.
No, she passed on a few years ago.
Sorry to hear that. Are you married, have any children of your own?
Daniel could not hide the sadness in his voice as he spoke. I did have, my wife and son were killed in a car accident six months ago.
Oh geese, I’m sorry.
That’s why I came out here. When I was informed that I had inherited this place I figured I needed a change and decided to come out here for awhile.
So, you don’t plan on staying?
I’m not sure, I figure by the time I get this place fixed up I’ll know what I want to do by then.
If you need any help just let me know,
she said as she stood up and cleared the table.
Thanks, I think for the next couple of days I am just going to go through everything and get rid of some of this stuff.
If you need me, I’m just a mile up the road, you can’t miss it. Oh, here are your keys,
as she handed him the keys, she allowed her hand to lightly brush his before turning away.
Thanks for breakfast,
standing on the porch he watched as she made her way down the gravel driveway; disappearing behind the trees.
Stepping back into the house, Daniel took the keys and tossed them on the side board. Sighing, he knew that he had his work cut out for him. After spending a half an hour cleaning up the kitchen, he made his way into the living room. Looking around in disgust, he grabbed a fresh garbage bag and walked over to the desk. Reaching out to open the top right hand drawer, he was surprised to find it locked; to his astonishment, the other three drawers were locked as well.
Pulling open the middle drawer, he began to move around the contents inside in search of the keys; to his disappointment, they were not there. Letting his curiosity get the better of him, Daniel was determined to find out what was in the locked drawers and began to search the house for the keys. For over two hours he tore the house apart looking for those damn keys. As an afterthought, he walked into the dining room and
