This is Kate's story about how the "trust" was broken explicitly by the people in her life that she loved and trusted the most. At a young age Kate would learn the hard way how to survive; starting by suffering not only sexual and physical but mental abuse as well by the hands of her father. After suffering years of abuse her father will finally be exploited for the monster that he is. Kate would quickly learn that all but a few of the people that she trusted to help her would quickly turn on her just like her father had said they would. After taking all that she could endure and knowing that it was the only way she could survive, she would try and leave behind all the horrible memories of her father, step-mother and the small town she lived in as she went to live with her real-mother. As she tried to start a new life and trust again Kate found herself in unfamiliar territory as she went from one abusive life to another as she stepped into her real-mothers world of drugs and alcohol. Unexpectedly, she would form a relationship with a boy from her new school. Mike would become a very important part of her life; gradually she would open herself up to him and start to trust again. He would stand by her helping her through some of the most difficult situations that her mother would put her though. There is only so much one can endure though, will he continue to stand by her, or will Mike to break a trust that will devastate her?

    CHAPTER 1

For Kate it was just another ordinary day, she awoke early, and went outside to do her chores before getting ready for school. Her brother Mark was already outside getting a head start when she walked out the door. Quickly, she gathered the eggs taking them back inside for her stepmother to wash, some of the eggs would be used for their own home, why the others were to be taken into town later in the week and sold to the local store.

Kate had just finished feeding and watering her horse when she heard her stepmother calling from the house. Hurry up you two, or you’re not going to have enough time to eat your breakfast.

She was just closing the door to the barn, when her brother jumped out scaring her. Gotcha, he hollered. I can’t believe you fall for that every time. He said bursting into laughter as he turned towards the house.

She did not find anything funny about her brother’s jokes, but he was right, she should have known that he was going to do something stupid to try and scare her. You’re such a jerk Mark, I swear one of these days I’m going to get even with you.

I hear yah, he said as he continued to laugh. Come on, I’ll race you to the house. Without giving her a chance to respond he took off running towards the house leaving her standing there. She did not bother to chase after him, for she knew it was useless, he always won. You’re no fun, he sneered when she finally reached the house.

That’s enough you two, their Stepmother said sternly as they walked through the door. Go and wash up while I put breakfast on the table before you make yourselves late, and miss your bus.

Without saying another word Kate and Mark did as they were told. After washing up she changed into her school clothes, and then made her way back to the table where she quickly polished off her breakfast.

Hearing the sound of the approaching bus Kate grabbed her book bag, and then quickly ran out the door knowing that if the bus driver reached the bus-stop before her he would not wait for her. As she climbed the steps she saw her friends Dana and Betty waving to her from the back of the bus. Slowly, she made her way to the back and sat down in the seat her friends had saved for her.

Guess what? Dana asked excitedly as Kate sat down beside her. You’ll never believe who called me last night, and asked if he could take me to the dance. From the excitement in her friend’s voice Kate knew exactly whom Dana was talking about.

Not wanting to take her friend’s moment of joy away from her she played dumb. Who asked you to the dance? She asked nonchalantly.

Steve, can you believe it? I was really hoping that he would call and ask me. I was just about to give up on him then low and behold he called last night.

That’s great Dana, I’m happy for you. Kate was truly happy for her friend; Steve was all Dana had talked about since the beginning of the school year.

Well Kate, Betty interrupted. Everyone already knows that Joe is taking me to the dance, and now that Dana is going with Steve I was curious, whom might you be going to the dance with?

Kate could feel herself blush as her friend put her on the spot. I don’t know if I’m going to the dance, she replied trying to conceal her embarrassment. Besides, she thought to herself, no one has even asked me.

What, are you crazy? Betty exclaimed! This is the biggest event of the year, how could you not go to the dance?

Kate could not contain herself as she burst into laughter over her friend’s reaction. Come on Betty, it’s only a stupid dance. It’s not as if there won’t be other dances to go to.

She was relieved to see that the bus was pulling into the school parking lot it gave her the chance to avoid any further conversation regarding the dance at least that was until lunch time when she was sure the subject would come up again. The day seemed to pass by all too quickly, before she knew it the lunch bell was ringing. As Kate entered the lunch room she could see that her two friends were already seated at their usual table by the time she made it through the lunch line and paid for her food Joe and Steve had joined her friends.

Great, she mumbled as she made her way towards the table. This should be fun. As she sat there quietly eating her food another boy walked over to their table, after acknowledging his friends he turned his attention to Kate.

Hello Kate, the boy she knew as Adam said smiling shyly at her. Can I talk to you a moment?

    Sure, Kate replied. What’s up?

I was hoping to talk to you in private, do you think we could go outside for a couple of minutes?

Oh, sure I guess that would be all right.

Leaving her tray of food on the table, she stood up and followed Adam outside. Adam was one of the most popular boys at school; she couldn’t imagine what he could possibly want to talk to her about that required privacy. He was in her English class; maybe he wanted to barrow her homework and was too embarrassed to ask her for it in front of his friends.

Do you want to sit down? He asked nervously pointing to the bleachers in front of them.

I guess so, she shrugged then sat down beside him.

For a moment they sat in silence both feeling awkward then finally Adam began to speak. I was wondering if you were going to the dance with anyone. He asked turning towards her.

Taken aback from his question, Kate sat stunned for a moment. Could he really be asking her to go to the dance with him? Realizing that her hesitation was making him nervous she began to speak. No, no one has asked me why?

Adam began to relax when she had hesitated he had feared someone had already asked her. All year long he had been doing things to try to get her attention, disappointed when she seemed to show no interest in him. Well, he continued shyly. Would you like to go to the dance with me?

Kate had never seen him act so shy before, in a way she thought it was kind of cute. As the butterflies began to flutter inside her own stomach she found herself becoming excited, and yet she was nervous as well. Yes, she replied trying not to sound too excited. I would love to go to the dance with you.

For the rest of their lunch break, they sat on the bleachers talking until the five-minute warning bell rang informing them that lunch was almost over. Taking her by the hand Adam walked her to her locker.

It looks like you have company, Adam said as he spotted Dana and Betty standing by Kate’s locker.

I see that, she smiled. They are undoubtedly waiting to see what it was that you wanted to talk to me about.

Well then, I guess I better go so you can give them all the juicy details. Bending down, he swiftly kissed her on the cheek then quickly walked away. Blushing Kate turned towards her friends.

    I saw that, Dana giggled.

Forget the kiss, Betty blurted out. Did he ask you to the dance or not?

Yes, he asked me to the dance, and yes I accepted. Kate replied as she opened her locker and took out the books for her next class. As the bell rang making them late for class, the three girls took off running down the hall.

When the day finally came to an end Kate headed for her locker, she smiled when she saw Adam waiting for her. After talking for a few minutes he walked her to the bus where he once again kissed her this time his lips brushed against hers lingering for a moment.

I’ll see you tomorrow, he said, then turned and walked away.

Kate sat quietly on the bus, only half listening to what her friends were saying. Even though she had accepted Adam’s invitation to the dance she still had to get her parents’ permission. It was something she had not thought of until that very moment, she figured the best, and safest way to do this was to approach her stepmother first. If she could get her stepmother’s approval, then maybe she would have a better chance of getting her father’s approval as well.

Kate, Dana hollered punching her in the arm. This is your stop, aren’t you going to get off?

Oh right, I’ll see you tomorrow. She said grabbing her book bag, then hurrying towards the front of the bus. For a moment she stood there watching the dust arise from the ground as the bus went bumping down the road, then slowly she turned and began to walk home.

Taking a deep breath she opened the screen door then went in search of her stepmother. Finding her in the kitchen preparing dinner she tossed her book bag onto the table.

Gathering up her courage she finally began to speak. Mom, I need to talk to you about something.

What is it? She asked as she turned to look at Kate with a worried expression upon her face. Please don’t tell me you went and got yourself into some kind of trouble at school you know what your Father will do.

Oh no, it’s nothing like that.

Good, she replied relaxing a little. So, tell me what is it that you want to talk about?

Kate once again drew in a deep breath before continuing on. There is this dance coming up at school in a couple weeks, and well one of the boys in my English class has asked me to go to the dance with him, I was wondering if I could go?

That’s great, her Stepmother exclaimed. It’s about time you started showing interest in other things besides sports, and those horses.

Kate was surprised at her stepmother’s reaction; she seemed more excited than what Kate had been earlier that day. So then, do you think I could go?

If it were up to me I would say yes in a minute, but you know your Father has the final say.

I know, Kate replied trying not to show her disappointment.

I’ll tell you what, why don’t you go on outside and do your chores, when the time is right I will talk to your Father about the dance.

Thank you, Kate replied feeling somewhat relieved.

As Kate went about doing her chores she knew the hardest part was yet to come, even though she had received her stepmother’s approval she still had yet to get her father’s approval. She was more than a little worried about his reaction, than what his answer might be. She did not know what she was going to say to Adam if her father said no, after finishing her chores she went inside the house to do her homework, she had just finished her homework when she heard her father call out announcing that he was home.

Sitting at the dinner table Kate barely touched her food, from being nervous and afraid about how her father was going to react.

Finally when they were half-way through their dinner her stepmother began to speak. Did you know that there is a dance coming up in a couple weeks at school? Our Kate here was asked to the dance by one of the boys in her English class.

Really, her Father replied placing his fork down on his plate, then turning his attention to Kate. Is that right, he said eyeing her.

Kate felt as if she were going to burst into tears, forcing a swallow she looked down at the plate of food that sat in front of her before replying. Yes sir, she sat there feeling scared, as the room became eerily quiet.

When her father finally began to speak she couldn't help but noticed the disappointment in his voice. I take it you want to go to this dance, with this boy?

Kate glanced over at her stepmother for support; she smiled at her encouraging her to go on. Yes sir, she replied turning her attention back to her father. I would really like to go to the dance. She was taken aback when her father stood up and pushed his chair away from the table, without saying a word to her he walked out of the room. Her heart sank as she tried to figure out what she was going to say to Adam when she returned to school the following day, she cursed herself for accepting his invitation before speaking to her parents. Reaching across the table, her stepmother gently squeezed her hand; Kate forced a smile as she tried to keep her tears from surfacing.

I’ll speak to your Father later, she whispered trying to reassure her that everything was going to be all right.

The subject of the dance was not spoken of again until later that evening after Kate had went to bed. She lay there listening as her parents fought over whether or not she could go to the dance. She had always felt bad when her parents fought, this time she felt even worse, knowing that the fight was over her. As she drifted off to sleep she once again tried to think of an excuse to give Adam, for if her stepmother could not convince her father into letting her go to the dance she was going to without a doubt have to decline Adam’s invitation.

The following morning when Kate awoke, she went directly to the kitchen in search of her stepmother. To her surprise she was nowhere to be found, so she went outside to do her chores. By the time she returned to the house her stepmother was in the kitchen preparing breakfast. Kate’s heart broke when she saw the bruises that her stepmother had tried to conceal; feeling guilty she quickly looked away.

I spoke to your Father last night Kate, he has agreed to let you go to the dance, but there are a few ground rules you will have to abide by.

Thank you, Kate replied standing up to give her stepmother a hug.

Don’t thank me yet, I haven’t told you the rules.

Kate listened carefully as her stepmother began to tell her the rules her father had set down. She found the first rule to be a little strange it seemed that no one besides her father was allowed to take her to and from the dance. The second was that she could not stay out past ten-thirty, and the third and final rule was that her stepmother had to go with her to pick out her dress. She knew without a doubt that she would abide by each rule her father had set down.

Sitting by her friends on the bus, she listened as the two of them went on about what kind of dresses and shoes that they were going to buy.

I have a great idea, Betty said excitedly. Why don’t we go into town after school on Friday and buy the things we need. Kate’s mind flashed back to earlier that day and what her stepmother had went through just so she could go to the dance. Kate did you hear me? Betty asked.

I doubt if I can go, my Stepmother is supposed to help pick out my dress.

Oh what a bummer; oh well, maybe your Stepmother can take us then.

I don’t know I’ll have to ask her. For the remainder of the bus ride, the three girls talked continuously about the dance, when the bus came to a stop they descended the bus and headed towards the school. By the time Kate reached her locker Adam was waiting for her. Cute, she thought smiling as she approached him. Hi, I didn’t expect to see you here.

I just thought I would walk you to class, that is if that’s okay with you.

    Sure, that’s fine with me.

Taking her books Adam and Kate began to walk down the hall together. Is something bothering you? Adam asked. You seem a little preoccupied.

Not really, it’s just that my parents have given me a few ground rules in regards to the dance that you should know about. Kate repeated her father’s rules to Adam then waited for his response.

I don’t see a problem, he said as they stopped at the door to her class. Want to meet me for lunch so we can figure out where to meet and all?

    Sure, that sounds great.

Great, I’ll see you at lunch then. Bending down he quickly kissed her on the cheek, then walked away leaving her standing there blushing.

For the rest of the week Kate and Adam were inseparable, every day he would walk her to class, then they would meet for lunch, he even took to sitting beside her in the English class that they shared together. As the days passed by she found herself growing excited about the upcoming dance, she was thrilled when her stepmother agreed to take her and her friends shopping after school that Friday. To Kate it seemed to take forever for Friday to arrive, as soon as the last bell rang, she and her friends threw their books in their lockers then quickly headed out the door to the parking lot where her stepmother sat waiting impatiently for the them. After saying hello, they climbed into the back of the car where they talked non-stop until they pulled into the parking lot of the mall.

Kate never dreamed that shopping could be so much fun, or so tiring, she must have tried on at least twenty dresses before making her final selection. It was much more difficult than what she thought it would be to find a dress that she liked, and one that her father would approve of. She finally settled on a satin navy blue dress, the neckline being v-shaped, the sleeves could be wore on or off the shoulders and the length of the dress going all the way down to her ankles. The dresses Dana and Betty chose were one’s she was certain her father would never approve of in a million years. Dana’s dress was a satin mint-green dress cut very low in the front with a slit that ran halfway up her leg revealing much more than a girl her age should. Betty’s dress was even more revealing than Dana’s, she insisted on buying a satin pink dress with spaghetti straps, the front cut so low that you could see the outline of her breasts, it was much shorter than what Kate herself was ever allowed to wear. There was no doubt in her mind that Dana and Betty’s dresses were ones that her father would never approve of.

The following week seemed to come to a standstill as the week dragged by slowly. Everyone, including Kate waited impatiently for the big night to arrive when it finally did she was so excited, and nervous that she could hardly eat her dinner.

Go on, her Stepmother said as she laughed at her. I’ll clear the table you go on upstairs and start getting ready. Running up the stairs Kate tripped almost falling flat on her face. Slow down, her Stepmother called up to her. You have plenty of time to get ready before it’s time to leave.

Carefully, Kate took her dress out of the closet then laid it across her bed. Returning to the closet she reached up on the shelf and pulled down the box that contained the new shoes that she had bought to match her dress. Taking them out of the box she placed the shoes on the floor in front of her bed then went to the bathroom to take a quick shower. After her shower she stood in front of the mirror humming as she began to blow-dry her hair. Back in her room she giggled as she pulled the pantyhose upon her legs, she had never worn pantyhose before, and they felt funny and yet soft and smooth against her skin. After putting on her dress, she stood in front of the mirror trying to decide what to do with her hair. As she stood there debating on what to do there was a knock upon her door.

Can I come in? Her Stepmother called out as she opened the door without waiting for her to respond. I thought you might like some help fixing your hair.

That would be great, Kate replied. I can’t figure out what to do with it.

Here, sit down and let me curl it for you. Doing as she was told, Kate sat down in the chair as her stepmother began to curl her bangs so that they feathered back, then she combed the back of her long brown hair letting it flow over her shoulders. There, now what do you say to a little make-up. Kate was surprised that she would even suggest such a thing, especially knowing how her father felt about make-up. Come on, just a little won’t hurt you. I’m sure your Father won’t mind.

Sitting as still as she could she waited impatiently for her stepmother to apply the make-up, when she was finished Kate stood in front of the mirror staring in disbelief. She could not believe that the reflection she saw in the mirror staring back at her was that of her own, she looked like a completely different person.

If you expect me to give you a ride to this dance, you had better be down here in five minutes. Her Father called out.

Giving her stepmother a hug, Kate thanked her once again for everything that she had done for her. You better get going you know how your Father hates to be kept waiting.

The look on her father’s face when she descended the stairs sent a chill down her spine. She could not tell if he approved or not. Let’s go, he replied as he turned away.

Don’t worry about him, her Stepmother whispered. He just doesn’t like the fact that his little girl is growing up, now go on and have yourself a great time. Hearing her father lay on the horn Kate turned to her stepmother and gave her one last hug before leaving for the dance. I want to hear all the details, her Stepmother called out as Kate ran out the door.

Her father did not say a word to her until they pulled into the school parking lot. I will be here by ten-thirty to pick you up, I expect you to be outside waiting for me when I arrive. Do you understand?

Yes sir, Kate replied throwing open the door and jumping out of the car before he could say anything else.

Kate walked into the school to find Adam exactly where he said he would be. Wow! You look great, he exclaimed as she approached him.

You look quite handsome yourself, she replied flashing her best smile.

Are you ready? He asked extending his hand towards her.

As ready as I’ll ever be.

For Kate the night was magical, they danced to almost every slow song that was played. Adam made her feel at ease as he graceful whisked her across the floor. Before she knew it her magical night was almost over, they had time for one last dance before she had to go outside and wait for her father.

I was wondering, he said as he pulled her closer to him. Would you like to be my steady girlfriend? Kate could not conceal her excitement as she threw her arms around him. I guess I can take that as a yes, he said as he smiled at her.

Yes, she exclaimed. I would love to be your girlfriend.

Bending down he brushed his lips lightly against hers. I guess I had better get you outside, he whispered in her ear. The last thing I want to do is make a bad impression on your Father.

I agree the last thing you want is to be on my Father’s bad side. After saying a quick good-bye to their friends they made their way outside.

    CHAPTER 2

Just as Kate and Adam were walking out the door, she saw her father pull into the parking lot. I really had a great time tonight, Kate said as she turned towards Adam.

Yeah, me to. Bending down he kissed her on the cheek promising to meet her by her locker when they returned to school on the following Monday.

Kate jumped as her father began to honk the horn impatiently. Thanks again, she said smiling at Adam as she climbed into the car. I’ll see you on Monday.

On the drive home Kate was quiet as she sat there thinking about the wonderful night she had just had, she couldn’t wait to get home and tell her stepmother all about it. This wonderful night of Kate’s would be one she would never forget, one she would remember for the rest of her life.

Where are we going? She asked as her father turned down a gravel road taking them in the opposite direction of their home.

Don’t worry about it, just sit there and shut up.

Kate could tell by her father’s tone that he was very angry, but why she did not know. Without saying a word she sat there in silence as he drove on, when he pulled over behind an abandoned barn and parked the car she became very frightened.

Why are we stopping? She asked nervously, stunned when he began to scream at her.

You little Whore, I saw you let that boy kiss you.

He-he only kissed me on the cheek, she replied trembling with fear.

If you want to learn about sex, he went on to say as if he hadn’t heard a word she said. Then, I’ll teach you everything you need to know, you won’t be learning it from any school boy.

Kate began to tremble even more as a fear welled up inside her that she had never felt before. I-I don’t want to learn about sex, she stammered as she wiped away her tears. She did not know why her father was acting the way he was, and it frightened her very much. Suddenly, without warning he threw himself upon her pushing her down into the seat, as her head stuck the door the reality of what was about to happen became very clear as a terrifying scream escaped from her lips. No-no, please don’t do this, oh God no, please don’t I’m your daughter. She cried out trying desperately to push him off top of her, but her efforts were useless, for he was heavier, and much stronger than her. Terrified, she began to scream as she widely swung her fists into the air. Sobbing, she continued to beg and plead for her father to stop, hoping that he would realize that what he was doing was very wrong. Feeling a burning sting she cried out as he began to slap her across the face.

You’re just like your real Mother, he screamed. Nothing but a Whore, as far as I’m concerned you deserve everything your about to get.

Placing his arm across her throat he pushed down just enough to make it hard for her to breathe. Frantically, she grabbed a hold of his arm trying to pull it away from her throat. Oh God, please help me. She silently prayed as the tears rolled down her face, but God was not listening, nor was he answering her prayers.

With one arm still applying pressure to her throat he began to punch her in the rib cage with his free hand. Kate felt an explosion of pain as his fist landed in her side one last time, the pain was so intense that it caused her to gasp every time she took a breath. She realized that her father was no longer attacking her when she felt his hand slip under her dress, as he tried to pull her panties down she tried to fight him off. With all the strength she had left she tried to push him away, but once again her efforts were useless, for the pain was so unbearable she could hardly move. Crying uncontrollably she begged and pleaded for him to stop; she thought she was going to die as he entered her, feeling as if her whole body was being ripped apart. After what seemed like a lifetime to her, he finally climbed off top of her. Slowly, she sat up trying to pull her panties up as quickly as she could.

Stop that crying, he screamed. I didn’t do anything to you that you didn’t deserve. Unable to stop herself from crying Kate sat there trembling as her father started the car and pulled back onto the road. Her father said nothing more until he turned onto the road that leads to their farmhouse. You had better not say a word about this to anyone, do you understand me? Kate could not reply all she could do was sit there and cry. I said do you hear me? Unable to speak she shook her head yes to acknowledge that she understood. Besides, he said in a much calmer voice. Whom do you think your Mother would believe anyway? Surely you don’t think she would believe a Slut like you. So, if you're thinking about running in and saying something I’d think again if I were you. Just remember that I brought you into this world, and if need be I won’t hesitate to take you out.

As soon as her father stopped the car she threw open the door and jumped out, running as fast as her aching body would allow she ran into the house going directly to the bathroom. She barely got the door closed and locked when she began to get sick dropping to her knees she threw her head over the toilet just in time. When she was finished she walked over to the sink and threw some cold water onto her face, unlocking the door she went to her room to retrieve her night close, and then quickly made her way back to the bathroom. Walking over to the shower she turned on the hot water, getting undressed she carelessly tossed her clothes upon the floor then climbed into the steaming hot water. She began to cry as the hot water pounded down onto her bruised aching body, wanting to make the dirty feeling go away she grabbed the bar of soap and began scrubbing her body as hard as she could, scrubbing until it hurt from where she had rubbed herself raw.

No matter how hard she tried she could not make the dirty disgusting feeling go away. She tried not to cry as she heard her stepmother calling out to her from behind the locked door.

Kate can you hear me? Unable to answer she began to cry even harder,
