30 Minute Thriller - The Fractured Detective - Tabatha Rose

    Chapter 1:

Detective Inspector Ryan Jackson awoke with a start, his heart racing and his brow beaded with sweat. He sat up in his bed, the cool sheets clinging to his damp skin, and glanced around his darkened bedroom. It was one of those moments where you didn't quite know whether you'd been dreaming or if something truly strange was happening. The room seemed oddly still and quiet, almost unnaturally so. He could see it in her eyes when she looked at him, the way she would hesitate before asking if he was okay, as if she was afraid of what the answer might be.

And then there was the fight they'd had the other night, the one where he'd snapped at her and threatened to leave her if she didn't stop questioning him. It wasn't like him, he knew that, but he couldn't seem to help it. Something was wrong, and he didn't know what it was.

With a sigh, Ryan finished dressing and made his way downstairs to the kitchen. He poured himself a glass of orange juice and took a seat at the table, staring blankly out the window as he tried to collect his thoughts.

The sun was just beginning to rise, painting the sky in shades of pink and orange, but it didn't
