CHAPTER 1
FOUNDATIONS OF INTELLIGENCE
1.1 What is Intelligence?
Intelligence is a fundamental aspect of human existence, captivating scientists, philosophers, and psychologists for centuries. However, the concept of intelligence is far from simple and requires examination from various perspectives.
Intelligence is not confined to mathematical or verbal abilities. It manifests in various dimensions. Individuals may excel in mathematical, musical, visual-spatial, or verbal intelligence, among others. This diversity underscores the uniqueness of each individual's intelligence profile. Excelling in one area, such as mathematics, does not diminish other abilities or types of intelligence.
Intelligence is closely linked to the brain. The brain serves as the central hub for cognitive processes such as information processing, problem-solving, decision-making, and learning. Continuous brain plasticity allows for the development of intelligence over time. Brain exercises and learning contribute significantly to intelligence enhancement.
Intelligence is often assessed through tools like IQ tests. However, these tests offer only a partial view of intelligence and cannot provide a comprehensive understanding of it. Intelligence is multifaceted and extends beyond specific domains like mathematics or vocabulary. Consequently, relying solely on such tests to measure intelligence may present an incomplete perspective.
Education plays a pivotal role in the development of intelligence. Quality education can help individuals realize their full potential. During childhood, appropriate education and encouragement can accelerate intelligence development. Every individual possesses untapped intelligence potential, which can be better
