The Unbreakable Bond - Lou Stardust
Chapter One
Mistakes have been made.
Right in the middle of a field, stood a hen house. It was the biggest, most expensive hen house anyone had seen. The wooden siding was bright white. The corbels, trim and tops of the spires were deep obsidian. Off to the left was a large fenced in area for the chickens to get exercise and fresh air. In the back there were doors that opened to collect eggs from the chickens. Fawn was supposed to be collecting eggs from the hen house but found herself gazing at the sunrise. It was beautiful reds and oranges swirled together like a magnificent painting.
Fawn was short, about five feet even. She was looked down upon by her clan because she cherished food and was a little more plus sized than all the other female Forest Nymphs. Her vibrant red hair glowed brightly in the sun. It fell in ringlets around her shoulders. There was one curl that fell into her eyes. She was constantly brushing it aside. She had the most delicate wings; they looked like they would never get her into the air, but that's the art of magic. Her wings looked exactly like the wings of a Blue Morpho butterfly. They were bright neon blue, and the edges were black. There were tiny white spots all along the perimeter. She was dressed in the attire that Zaros required her to wear every day for work. Denim short shorts with little lace trim along the hemline and a white button-up shirt that was tied underneath her perfect c cup breasts.
She didn't know how long she had been standing there doing nothing, but she knew she needed to finish. She turned back to the hen house and finished collecting the eggs. Zaros would be angry if she didn't get the eggs collected. She turned and slowly walked towards the main house.
Passing by the field where the bee hives were kept, she saw several Elves collecting honey. They had bee suits on covering their entire body. No one likes to be stung. All the workers on the ranch were working off favors. Zaros loved to fulfill favors in exchange for workers on the ranch. At the last count, there were 50 people on the ranch.
Next was the horse stalls, they were made of rustic, aged wood. There were six big horse stalls in total. Each one was filled with a magnificent Elven Steed. They were all the deepest black because that was the color that Zaros preferred. The short stout men working the stalls looked weathered and tired. Most of them couldn’t have been more than four feet five. They had messy hair and an unkempt beard. They wore tattered clothing that was incredibly old. It was like Zaros had never provided them with new clothing since they arrived. There were holes in their tan pants and rips in their white shirts. She thought she heard someone say that the Dwarves that worked with the steeds had been there a while. Fawn didn’t think that Zaros ever wanted to let them go.
Fawn also walked by the field of cows. There were two herds and each one had to have had more than 100 cows in it. One herd had only dairy cows. The other herd was for meat. There was an old, rundown barn where the cows could get shelter if they wanted to.
Zaros broke into her thoughts by angrily calling her name. She knew that he hadn’t yelled. It only appeared in her head. Only for Fawn to hear.
Dammit,
she thought to herself, He needs something again.
Fawn kept moving. She looked up and there stood the main house. It was enormous, with more than 100 rooms. It had a large wraparound porch and the old wood siding was kept bright white. All the trim and accents were deeply obsidian. On top of the house there were three towers. Each one was topped with a black dome and an iron weathervane.
Several Fairies were cleaning the large front porch. They flitted about quickly. There were two ornate wooden rocking chairs on either side of the double wooden door. They looked hundreds of years old. They each held a small dark purple pillow. Fawn assumed they were for comfort while sitting in them. On the left side of each chair was a little wooden table. It too was ornate and looked old. Two gas lanterns made of black iron flanked the doorway. The Fairies dusted and straightened things up. The entirety had to be perfect.
Inside everything was very opulent. Zaros only had the finest things his money could buy. The foyer had paintings from the darkest of demons that lived in the caves in the mountains. Fawn didn’t like them because they were wicked and evil. There was a detailed antique table that held a vase hand-made by the Water Nymphs that lived by the furthest away lakes. It was bluish in color, swirled with purples and greens. She walked over the gray and white marble floor into the kitchen.
The Werewolves making lunch waved hello but kept working hard. Zaros had found that Werewolves were the best cooks and the ones in this kitchen were the only paid staff. Zaros paid them well to cook for everyone on the whole ranch. No meal could not be
