About this ebook

I started the development of this work in 1995, when, inspired by Arnold Toynbee’s masterpiece, A Study of History, and the book Future Wars , from Trevor N. Dupuy, I wrote the monograph A foresight vision for the early twenty-first century, based on the military history of the period 1939-1991, of the warfare evolution in the employment of armed troops , which was presented in 1999 as a doctorate’s thesis. In 2004, I developed the professional work A Study of Military History of the Korean War , in which I began a layout for the study of military history supported by wargames. In 2005, with the reading of the book Wargame Design , published by Strategy & Tactics Magazine, I consolidated the matrix ¨A Study of Military History . After reading the book Japanese and Chinese Chess - the Science and Art of War , I added this new book The Study of Wars and the Chess Games , relating the fundamentals of the chess games to the principles of the Art and Science of War.

    ABSTRACT

I  started  the  development  of  this  work  in  1995, when,  inspired  by  Arnold  Toynbee’s  masterpiece,  A Study  of  History,  and  the  book  Future  Wars,  from Trevor  N.  Dupuy,  I  wrote  the  monograph  A  foresight vision  for  the  early  twenty-first  century,  based  on  the military  history  of  the  period  1939-1991,  of  the warfare  evolution  in  the  employment  of  armed troops,  which  was  presented  in  1999  as  a doctorate’s  thesis.  In  2004,  I  developed  the professional  work  A  Study  of  Military  History  of  the Korean  War,  in  which  I  began  a  layout  for  the  study of  military  history  supported  by  wargames.  In  2005, with  the  reading  of  the  book  Wargame  Design, published  by  Strategy  &  Tactics  Magazine,  I consolidated  the  matrix  ¨A  Study  of  Military  History". In  2014,  to  continue  my  masterpiece  ¨A  Study  of  the History  of  the  Wars¨  (I  have  already  published  three out  of  eleven  volumes:  Volume  I,  ¨Historical Simulation  of  the  Wars  of  the  Early  Empires  ¨,

Volume  II,  ¨Historical  Simulation  of  the  Wars  in

Ancient  Greece¨  and  Volume  IX  ¨Historical Simulation  of  the  First  World  War¨)  when  in preparation  to  Volume  III,  Historical  Simulation  of the  Roman  Wars,  after  reading  the  book  Japanese and  Chinese  Chess  -  the  Science  and  Art  of  War,  I added  this  new  book  The  Study  of  Wars  and  the Chess  Games  ,  relating  the  fundamentals  of  the chess  games  to  the  principles  of  the  Art  and Science  of  War. Keywords:  History.  Art  of  War.  Science  of  War.

    Wargames.  Chess  Games.

    CHAPTER  1

    THE  CHESS  GAMES Sources

From  a  broader  point  of  view  we  can  say  that  the game  of  chess  was  created  so  that  the  human  mind could  practice  a  full  range  of  possible  conflicts  to  be lifelong  faced.

Chess  was  called  Chaturanga  in  its  Hindu  origin,  with the  board  equal  to  the  current  Western  chess.  However,  it was  played  by  four  players,  each  one  with  its  own  army of  different  colors.

Each  army,  according  to  the  ancient  Hindu  warfare, owned  a  King,  an  Elephant  (Western  Bishop),  one
