SEE THE INVISIBLE
Chapter 1
ASSESS THEIR HIDDEN DESIRES
I have a deeply hidden and inarticulate desire for something beyond the daily life.
Virginia Woolf
I did a bad, bad thing when I was 16. I got myself a job. It was at a Detroit-based retail store in my hometown of Cleveland, Ohio, named Winkelman’s. This was one of my mom’s favorite places to shop for clothing, and she was a frequent customer. The store was very refined, relatively upscale, and extremely open and friendly.
