    What is Thanksgiving?

Thanksgiving is de scribed in the diction ary as the giving of gratitude, especially tow ards God. Many Scripture s in the Bible comman d us to give thanks t o God. Thanksgiving is app reciating the giver. Thanksgiving is honori ng God. God said that those wh o sacrifice thank offering s honor me in Psalm 50:23. It ’s a sign that you trust God. Than ksgiving is the recognition that God is in charge of your life. A ll nations of the wo rld need to recognize t he LORD; they need to r ecognize that the LORD is glorious and strong (see Psalm 96:7 NLT). It is total and complete de pendency on God. David sai d that he wants to depend o n God alone because his salvation a nd honor depend on God; he put his hope in him. Thanks giving is recognizing th at without God we can do nothin g. Jesus said in John 15:5 that without Him we can do no thing. It is the acknow ledgment that we are no thing without God. Apostle Paul said that he is what he is by the grace of God in 1 Corinthians 15:10. Thanksgiving is the doorway to your blessings. It is ascribing all the glory to God f or where we are ( Ascr ibe to the LORD the glory due to his name 1 Chronicl es 16:29). It is the act of being grateful for what God has done. We know that the LORD h as done great things for us, and we are fil led with joy . It is be ing grateful for the be nefits we have received, fo r the favors that He has besto wed upon us ( Praise the LORD, and forget n ot all His benefits, Psalm 103:2) . Thanksgiving is a force th at attracts good to you. The Psalmist said tha t it is a good thing to giv e thanks unto the LO RD in Psalm 92 verse 1. Thanksgiving isca pable of delivering mirac les to thanks givers. It is acknowledging only God can do th e miracles we experience i n life [… You are the God who performs mi racles (Psalm 76:14)] . It is giving all the credit to God for all the happenings in our lives. It is giving Him all the credit for keeping us alive. Thank sgiving is a necessity as food is a necessity for your body. It is a ppreciating God for all His blessings. It is recoun ting the past acts of God ( I will remember the deeds of the LORD; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago. I will consider all your works and meditate on all your mighty deeds. Ps alm 77:11-12). It is a n act of humility. Th anksgiving is God’s will for us according to 1 Thessalo nians 5:18; Apostle Pa ul said to give thanks in all circumstances . Thanksgiving is a s piritual weapon ( As the y began to sing and praise, the LOR D set ambushes against the men of Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir who were invading Judah, and th ey were defeated. 2 Chronicles 20 :22). It is an invincible weapon against satan. It is one of the best ways to torment satan and his mother-in-law as Bishop Tudor Bismack usu ally says. Thanksgiv ing is a lifetime debt we owe to God. It reminds us of what we have a nd the blessings we h ave received from God. Th anksgiving is the pro tocol to enter God’s house. The Psalmist said to enter into His gates with thanksgiving in Psalm100:1 and to come before him with th anksgiving and to wors hip him with music and so ng in Psalm 95:2.

Thanksgiving is simply an expression of gratitude. It’s so simple that people don’t pay too much attention to it. Sometimes the little things we ignore the most would have affected our life tremendously in a positive way if we had put them into practice. I believe saying thank you is one of them. Being thankful draws blessings to the thanks giver. There is a revelation in being thankful. Anything you are doing for God requires a revelation. I believe thanksgiving is a revelation as well. Why something so simple is so neglected? Most people don’t know how much power that contains in these two little words ‘thank you.’ Jesus uses them in several occasions while He was on earth. And every time He used them something great happens. The greatest miracle that happens after Jesus gave thanks, in my opinion, happened at the tomb of Lazarus. After He gave thanks, He cries out with a loud voice Lazarus, come forth! We should follow that same pattern. When you’re facing a difficult situation, after giving thanks to God, cry out with a loud voice to the problem and tell it to go. You can say something like sickness, go! or pain, go! Just name the difficulty and tell it to go. That’s what Jesus did. He is our role model. We should do exactly what He did when He came down to earth over two thousand years ago. It might seem illogical but it won’t hurt if you try it. Everything God does looks illogical. God doesn’t use logic to perform His miracles because He’s not a natural man. God is a spirit being. Logic is of the f lesh. For those of you who study the Bible, you would agree with that. Apostle Paul says in 1 Corinthians 1:27 that God chose the foolish things of the world to shame those who think they are wise and he chose the weak things of the world to shame those who think they are strong. Therefore, don’t be surprised if I tell you to give thanks first and speak to your mountain of any kind. I like a statement that Dr. Mike Murdock made often. He said that all God does is speak. He added that God loves to speak so much that He calls Himself ‘The Word’ (see John 1:1). The proof is in Genesis chapters one and two. Go ahead and read them. All over the chapters it’s ‘and God said’…’and God said’. In addition, in Psalm 33 verse 6 the psalmist says that by the Word of the LORD the heavens were made; and in verse 9 he says He spoke and it was done, He commanded and it came into existence. I understand perfectly why Dr. Murdock made that statement.

Examples of Thanksgiving Prayers in the Bible

    David’s Prayer of Thanksgiving

David prai sed the LORD in the pr esence of the whole as sembly, saying, "Praise be to You, LORD, the God of our father Israel, from everlasting to ev erlasting. Yours, LORD, is t he greatness and the power and the glory and the majest y and the splendor, for ev erything in heaven and eart h is Yours. Yours, LORD, is the ki ngdom; You are exalted as h ead over
