She never expects to find love on her short getaway, but it's impossible to deny the mutual attraction when their eyes meet.

Touched is a romantic and heartfelt romance about a crossdressing guy and a woman who understands him and how they find their HEA.

    To my readers, always

    CHAPTER 1

    Ella

I was in desperate need of a vacation. Working at one of the city’s top law firms had me on edge. Every single day involved putting out fires and crises and doing things for everyone but myself. I couldn’t even find time to make it to the gym most days. Some days I wasn’t even lucky enough to have lunch.

Too bad working as a lawyer had always been my dream. Ever since I was younger, I wanted to stand in a court room and argue my case in front of a jury, but I quickly learned that was not the way to go after a short stint as a public defender. I loved helping people who were improperly accused. Truly, there was no better feeling than seeing an innocent person walk free, but I also had to represent a lot of people who were clearly guilty of the crimes they committed, and it got to me. I couldn’t keep ignoring the truth, especially not for the paychecks that I was receiving. It just wasn’t worth it in the end.

Not that the private practice was much better, but at least they were paying me enough to cover my student-loan bills, but I had to ask myself each and every day if the career that I had was worth it. My debts would bury me alive if I quit my job, but how much longer could I keep going like this?

I had a lot of thinking to do over the next few days. I had a reservation booked at a bed and breakfast by the beach and was eager to clear my mind and formulate a plan for my future. One with a lot less law and a lot more freedom, but when would I ever be able to make that happen?

I sighed and put on a pair of sunglasses as I stepped outside the townhouse where I lived in Atlanta. I hopped into my car and hit the road. My phone rang twice before I even left the city limits. I turned it off before it could beep another time. I’d told everyone at the office that I was going on vacation for a few days, which was a huge deal. They almost didn’t let it happen, and I would be damned if they were going to ruin the first three consecutive days I had off in months by calling me the entire time I wasn’t at the office.

Once I’d relaxed from the few missed phone calls, I reached over and turned up the radio. One of my favorite songs was playing. I tapped my fingers on the steering wheel and sang along in the loudest voice that I could, feeling the venom slowly leak from my soul. My job was destroying me, but I didn’t know how to escape it, and I was positive that a few days away wouldn’t change anything. I would be back in the office on Monday with a slew of unopened emails and a list of problems longer than a kid’s wish list at Christmas.

Halfway to the beach, I was feeling a little lighter, feeling like I could finally forget about my problems for a few days now that I was away from the city and deeper into the countryside, but the peace couldn’t last forever. As hard as I tried to ignore the fact that Monday was only a few days away, the truth lingered in the back of my mind. I prayed that something would come along to help me see things in a new light, but how often did that actually happen in life?

    I was stuck.

My bills were astronomical. As much as I wanted to wave a magic wand to make my problems disappear, that wasn’t possible. I’d chosen my path a long time ago, and now I had to walk it. I was a lawyer, for better or worse.

The bed and breakfast was even cuter than the pictures had led me to believe. It was right off the ocean, which made its name Crashing Waves a lot
