About this ebook

Praying with Jesus uncovers the four aspects of having a successful prayer life. The main key is realizing that the Father, Jesus and the Holy Spirit are with us in prayer. The Scripture in Acts 10:38, talks about how Jesus was anointed with the Holy Ghost and power and went about doing good healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with Him. It is knowing God is with us that will cause us to realize nothing is impossible for us in prayer.

    PREFACE:

    PRAYING WITH JESUS

Several years ago, I had an encounter with Jesus in the spirit that extended for two or three days. I saw him praying with me. It was primarily a time of fellowship, refreshing and peace. During this experience he asked me what did I want. In response I asked him several specific questions regarding a few personal concerns as well as what was on his heart. While I was confident that he heard me, the answers to the questions came later. As a result of this encounter, I became aware of the beauty and necessity of praying with the Lord. Prayer is not a task we do by ourselves, but it is a conversation, lifestyle, activity, something the Lord Jesus wants to take part in with us. Although we are invited to present our prayer request to him, according to the Scripture Christ makes intercession for us (Romans 8:34). The Word also assures that the Holy Spirit helps us in prayer. Romans 8:26 says:

Likewise the Spirit also helps our infirmities: for

we know not what we should pray for as we ought:

but the Spirit itself makes intercession for us with

    groanings which cannot be uttered.

When the disciples saw Jesus praying, they asked him to teach them how to pray (Luke 11: 1-20). In verse 2 Jesus instructs, When you pray say... After my three-day experience I too wanted to pray like Jesus. Since then, the Lord has been answering my prayer and teaching me how to pray and minister like he did. For example, He taught me how to pray for my needs, how to pray for the sick and how to release revival or refreshing. As he did with the disciples, he taught me what to say. There is a mindset one has to have to pray like Jesus. Philippians 2:5, says, Let this mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus. The Lord emphasized to me that we are effective in prayer and ministry by knowing who we are and what belongs to us in the kingdom of God (Philemon 1:6).

Effective prayer is rooted in a strong foundation of the life, glory, and the kingdom of God. In the Word of God, the Lord reveals how he takes us through a process. Each phase is obtained by faith. When we are saved by grace we come into the life of God. Psalm 16:11 says, I will show you the path of life in his presence is fullness of joy and at his right-hand pleasures forevermore. Life with God leads to his presence. While in his presence we realize we are in him, and he is in us (John 17:22-23). Because of this we are seated in heavenly places in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 2:6). Coming to this revelation by faith leads us to experience the kingdom of God. These elements together create a strong prayer life. Prayer is not an activity that we are to do alone but it is an intimate conversation with the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

At the start of my prayer journey, I came to God with a list of what I needed him to do. As I grew in my walk with God, my focus changed. I wanted to have a closer relationship with him and his will above my own. In the process I discovered that journaling my prayers and what I learn in the Word of God is an effective tool for learning how to hear from God. There have been occasions when the Lord shared something with me then five years later, he shared the exact same thing on the same date. This also served as a confirmation that I heard from him. My desire to learn about prayer led me to read books by Brother Lawrence, Andrew Murrey, Watchmen Nee and Madame Guyon. I wanted the abiding relationship with God as they wrote about. I also read about the power of God and faith by authors Kenneth Hagan, Kathern Kuhlmann and Smith Wigglesworth. From the time he and I spent together, my favorite scripture that became my prayer is Psalm 27:4:
