    PREFACE

Music is an art. According to Tolstoy (1960); The function of art is to transmit specific emotions from the artist to the listener in a direct way. Christian music is the overflow of the Christian heart, it is therefore necessary that Christian songs be crafted and drafted well in order to make the out-pouring of the heart memo- rable and connectible.

This second book has been a joy. During my study of music at the Methodist University College Ghana (2013-2016), I had the priv- ilege of studying Aesthetic Evaluation of Selected Art Works in the third year, (second semester). This wasn’t part of the subjects I registered in that semester, however with hindsight I will say this was a serendipitous act, a divine connection.

The University released the examination time table for that semester, two weeks to the examination. As it was required of students, together with some course mates, we went to the notice board to view and copy our respective timetables. I then noticed that the day and time for the examination of a theater course I reg- istered for that semester, clashed with a university required course, and as we all know University required courses are man- datory without which the required credit hours cannot be fulfilled, hence graduation will ultimately not be possible.

I quickly had to go and rectify it with the examination officers. It was there I was told that I shouldn’t have registered for the theatre course. This was due to the fact that, the theatre course was that of University of Cape Coast and the Music course was for Uni- versity of Ghana; A University of Cape Coast affiliated course against University of Ghana affiliated course. With the help of the

then Principal, the Very Rev. (Professor) S.K Agyapong, Former Head of Department, Professor Martin Owusu, and the lecturer in Charge of examination, Mr. Kras Kofi Arthur, I was quickly assisted to register a new music course which was the "Aesthetic Evaluation of Selected Art Works", to meet the shortfall created by this occurrence.

It wasn’t very easy from the beginning, knowing I had to grasp all that and sit for an examination in less than a month, but I was left with no choice, than to develop the love for it. Thanks to my lecturer, Mr. Anthony Nyamful who also took his time to take me through the
