About this ebook

We welcome you to your new guide Voyage Experience: "New Caledonia and Loyalty Islands"!  We hope it will help you discover these stunning tropical islands with breathtaking nature, rich biodiversity, gorgeous beaches, superb lagoons, many of which have been declared UNESCO World Heritage Sites. If you love to discover new gems, hiking, snorkeling, diving, surfing, sunbathing, horse riding, New Caledonia will surprise you by its incredible richness!

We have spent more than two months in New Caledonia and if at the beginning we had not been so enthusiastic about writing a guide about it, we've changed our mind gradually by discovering real gems on these great and so beautiful islands. It's true that after living for three years in Martinique and its gorgeous beaches, we were thinking that we'd find the same spots here and were a little bit disappointed. Nevertheless, we succeeded in finding breathtaking beaches with stunning lagoons... so patience is one of the keywords in New Caledonia. As for nature, it conquered us from the start with its incredible diversity, perhaps the richest we have ever encountered so far. Therefore, if you are patient enough to read till the end and see some of our photos, you'll understand by yourself that New Caledonia is really an island that worth the journey. New Caledonia is an archipelago formed by a main island, called Grande Terre, 400 km long and 50 km wide, and more than 140 islands. One of the best known is the gorgeous Île-des-Pins (Isle of Pines) but there are also the Loyalty Islands to the east: Ouvéa, Lifou and Maré.

    Welcome!

    Hello!

Thank you for purchasing this eGuide and welcome to your new Voyage Experience : New Caledonia and Loyalty Islands !

This "Voyage Experience travel eGuide offers you an other approach of the journey, between a log book" and a classic guide. You can discover hidden treasures and browse freely through all the pages.

Photo: Terrific scenery with red mountains in Yaté

You can imagine that we do not have a team like Lonely Planet (and this is in fact not the goal of our approach), therefore you will not find in this e-book a full list of addresses of accommodation or restaurants. We are just a couple of diginomads sharing with you our journeys, our experiences. We hope this will help you discover new destinations and make you want to visit them.

If you own an Android smartphone and want to save on internet data transfer, use the free MapFactor Navigator app that we recommend WARMLY, tested and approved on roads around the world. The maps are free to download in order to enjoy offline mode and navigate without permanent connection.

This eGuide works almost like a website, and does not need to be used along with an Internet connection (unless you want to access the "OpenStreetMap" and other hyperlinks that we provide throughout the book, in real time).

Attention, we update our books permanently. Whether to correct small mistakes that we all make and for which we apologize in advance, but also to add important information such as new restaurants, accommodations or places to visit for our Travel eGuides on our next visits, new recipes or plants or to update technical data for minor changes occurring in all our useful guides. We want to warn you that many platforms DO NOT send you our updates. We tried to explain to them the usefulness of announcing at least the existence of a new version, but without success. So if you want to enjoy the latest version of our ebooks, ask the platform from which you bought them and you will benefit from this feature.

Depending on the capabilities of your eBook reader, you can enjoy zoom features on photos. You can also click on the hypertext links (or hyperlinks) underlined throughout the eGuide. We tried our best to make your reading experience as enjoyable as possible, despite the wide technology gaps between various reading systems.

Be sure that we will propose to you more interactive versions, as the formats and eBook readers should be standardized in the future!

    Well, enough chatting. Let's go!

    Sincerely,

    Cristina & Olivier

    How to use this eGuide?

You have already read dozens of books or even travel guides in your life. They usually have a table of contents at the beginning and either an index, glossary or an acknowledgement section at the end.

What you have in hand already contains a lot of this information, but it also has a bonus that will help you to quickly and intuitively mobilise the content and personalise your reading mode: it is a true digital touch-screen eBook, a kind of website that doesn’t need an Internet connection.

We organized this eGuide in a conventional way for those who want to read normally without asking any metaphysical or methodological questions: if you want, you can jump directly to places to visit.

For the curious or geeks, here are the three modes of navigation that we offer. You can always go back while reading using the button "Back" on your smartphone, tablet or touch screen computer.

So sit back, relax, and let us introduce to you these Travel eGuide special features ;-)

A top horizontal menu with 3 icons

At the top-right hand corner of every page there is a horizontal menu bar with three round floating icons. They are tagged "GeoNAV, PhotoNAV and IcoNAV". Each of their functions is described below.

All underlined texts are hyperlinks: therefore, you can click on them.

Below is an example of the hyperlinks that you can touch and activate (circled in red):

    UtilisationE-Guide

On the left, under the menu bar and the name of the section you’re reading, you can see colourful thematic icons, as a square, with a symbol inside.

    Here are some examples:

Astuce Astuce Enfants Plage Kayak Faune Restaurant

These icons announce clearly and simply the points of interest which are present in the respective section. The background color of the icons depends on the theme. You can see the details of these icons in the IcoNAV chapter.

At the top right, you can see THREE round navigation icons with a dark pictogram inside.

    Here is a detailed explanation:

    1. GeoNAV: a classic geographical exploration

    GeoNav

    Geo...

By clicking the hypertext link (or hyperlink) located immediately below this round compass-styled icon, you reach a classic view of the map, displaying colored geographical areas and hyperlinks next to the map that allow you to access the respective chapter with a simple click (a smaller geographical map of the general area).

From here you can select and read about the different places of interest you want to find out about.

    2. PhotoNAV: discover the locations by photos

    PhotoNav

    Photo

By clicking the hypertext link (or hyperlink) located immediately below this round camera-styled icon, you can view photos taken by me or made available by the authors on Wikipedia (whom I refer to and thank at the end of the book) in order to discover the beauty of this country.

So, if you like a picture, click on it (or on the hyperlink below) and go directly to the respective tourist attractions!

    3. IcoNAV: choose your points of interest or hobbies by icons

    IcoNav

    IcoNAV

By clicking the hypertext link (or hyperlink) located below this round question-mark styled icon on a black background, you will view the list of all the points of interest, or icons presented in this e-guide.

Within the IcoNAV chapter, you will view the thematic icons, and for each of them, its respective list of attractions, listed as hyperlinks, which you can activate by clicking. It couldn’t be any easier!

    How to view the maps?

If you are not connected to the Internet and if your eBook reader allows it, you can zoom in (with your mouse wheel or by spreading two fingers apart on your touch screen device) because their resolution allows to do so.

If you have Internet access you can also access the proposed website "OpenStreetMap" by clicking or touching on the hyperlink (circled here in red) located immediately below the respective map.

Tips for improving your reading experience:

You can use "bookmarks" to quickly find a page.

If your ebook reader/viewer allows it, touch a word in the text, and add personal notes and comments.

If your ebook reader/viewer allows it, disable automatic justification so that the text won’t spread and become unreadable.
