South Korea - Cristina Rebiere
Authors
Welcome!
Hello!
Thank you for purchasing this eBook and welcome to your new " Travel eGuide: South Korea ". We hope it will help you to discover this mysterious country, a mixture of spirituality, history and high technology. A territory having mountainous landscapes of a great beauty, harmonious architecture, people open-minded in spite of not too many foreign tourists who frequent - for the moment - this magnificent country.
This eGuide offers a different approach between a travel log
and a classic tourist guide. You will discover a route of about 2000 kilometers that we made during our journey in South Korea. This country will leave you full of memories.
This eGuide
although it works almost like a website, doesn’t need to be used along with an Internet connection (unless you want to access the "OpenStreetMap" and other hyperlinks that we provide throughout the book).
Depending on the capabilities of your eBook reader, you can enjoy zoom features on photos. You can also click on the hypertext links (or hyperlinks) underlined throughout the e-guide. We tried our best to make your reading experience as enjoyable as possible, despite the wide technology gaps between various reading systems.
Be sure that we will propose to you more interactive versions, as the formats and eBook readers should be standardized in the future!
Well, enough chatting. Let's go!
Sincerely,
Cristina & Olivier
Practical tips - South Korea
Budget tips:
Plane tickets
Depending on your country of origin, the tips can be different to have cheaper tickets plane.
Here are some advice which apply no matter where are you coming from.
Tips:
Buy your tickets in advance (minimum of 3 or even 6 months) to get the best rates so you can choose the dates of your vacation. Look for promotions from different airlines.
Do not buy your tickets at once, but test
the market at first. Look for the airline companies which go to your envisaged destinations. In South Korea see here for Seoul and for Jeju here.
Buy your tickets towards one of these cities and then prepare your route according to it.
Pay attention because the tickets prices may vary on every hour and without any logic. Consequently, record in a file on your computer the prices you have found for several days before making your decision. You can compare that way and know immediately when you will have an opportunity not to be missed. You may save more than 300 €/ticket.
If possible, avoid traveling at holiday times (Christmas, New Year, etc.) to get the cheapest price for your airline tickets.
According to your starting point, try the following airline companies to have more chances to obtain good prices: Finnair, Korean Air, Lufthansa, Emirates, Turkish Airlines, KLM.
You can take advantage of the Buddha day (in May), but also of cherry blossoms and of the spring beauty. However in the North it is quite cold, then do not hesitate to take pullovers and a good parka. Going southward, the temperatures become milder and you can even stay in T-shirt. If you are not afraid of the cold, September is very convenient to the discovery in this country because the nature takes magnificent tints.
Traveling
Tips:
Acar rental is the most suitable way of getting around in South Korea. It also gives you a lot of freedom.
Note: You must make your reservation using a credit card. If you did not reserve by Internet with the insurance included, you can have big surprises once there!!!
Current speed limits:
- Highway : 110 km/h or 100 km/h;
- Seoul Expressways: 70 km/h or 80 km/h;
- National Road : 80 km/h City: 60 km/h
Accommodation
You have plenty of choices in terms of accommodation. Everything depends on your budget and how many persons travel with you. Guesthouses are the most economic choice. Almost everywhere there are computers available in the room. Certain hotels, especially in tourist resorts, are of a rather doubtful taste, very kitsch, but clean.
Tips :
Here are some useful links that will help you finding an accomodation in South Korea : http://french.visitkorea.or.kr/fre/TR/TR_FR_3_1_1.jsp - here you have accomodations by category in Seoul and Jeju. Another useful web site where you can search by zone here .
Restaurants
The cooking of the country is interesting and its gastronomy rich. However it is a special one and we did not manage to really appreciate it because restaurants in South Korea have menus written only in Korean and the staff does not speak a lot of English... or any other foreign language. We were able to appreciate some barbecues however.
We also tasted the
