    CHAPTER 1

I magine a beautiful hillside country scene with a cute little bunny hopping along a road. He’s all grey, with great big tall ears, and fluffier than you can imagine, like one of those beautiful Angora rabbits. He’s smaller than some of the bunnies in his neighbourhood, and he has glasses that keep falling down his face as he bounces. You may not know it, but you may already know who this bunny is. You’ve been singing songs about him for years. His name is Little Bunny Foo Foo.

He wasn’t actually born with that name, you know. It was given to him by his adoptive parents when he was a baby. The name that he was given by his birth mom was Jimmy Lee. She had to give him a name so that the paperwork for the adoption could be taken care of. He was an unexpected bunny, and when his birth mother found out that she was expecting, she knew she wasn’t in a position to properly care for him. So she decided to give him up for adoption and give him a better chance at life. She never even held him when he was born. He was whisked away by the nurse bunnies, and she never saw him again.

After he was born, he sat in that tiny hospital bed for a full three weeks before the adoption agency phoned to say that they’d found him a home. He was a fussy bunny and cried a lot, so when the hospital staff heard he was finally going home, they all cheered! They were so relieved and happy for him.

He was still crying when his adoptive parents came to pick him up at the agency office. He was crying so loudly that they could hear him all the way from the main floor when they went to get in the elevator. They made it just in time, too, because the janitor was about to lock up the elevator for the night when they arrived. Luckily, the janitor was a nice old fellow and let them on before starting to lock up the building for the evening.

When his adoptive parents came into the office where he was and his new mother picked him up, he instantly stopped crying, feeling safe for the first time since he was born. He must have known he was with his family now, because he fell asleep and slept through the entire journey home, plane ride and all.

He had a fairly uneventful childhood until he started school. He spent lots of time at his grandparents’ farm, which was just down the road from his family’s farm. Everything seemed to be OK, and when he got big enough, his adoptive parents started telling him that he’d been adopted and that he’d been chosen just for them—just like they’d told his older brother Sean. At least that’s what his adoptive mom said. His adoptive dad never really said much and never had time to spend with him. He loved his dad, though, and tried to be his little helper whenever he could, which honestly ended up being not that often. His dad didn’t really like help much.

When he was about five years old, the family moved into town and bought a couple of restaurants. LB, which became his nickname, really liked to help out in back at the restaurants. As
