Breaking the Loop - Jordan T. Brightfield
Introduction
Welcome to the Revolution of Loop-Breaking!
Negative mental patterns, eh? You've seen them, I've seen them, and they're about as welcome as a mosquito at a nudist colony. But here we are, set to go on a hilarious yet profoundly serious trip to confront these annoying mental pests. Breaking the Loop: Overcoming Negative Thought Patterns
is more than a book; it's a wild ride through the ups and downs of our inner psyche, complete with seat belts and loop-the-loops.
Why Did You Choose This Book? Because Sisyphus was unable to comment
Do you remember Sisyphus? That wretched fellow from Greek mythology who was forced to roll a boulder up a hill to watch it roll back down for all eternity? He's the unofficial mascot for pessimistic thinking. You're not alone if you've ever felt like you're pushing a mental boulder up a hill. But, unlike our friend Sisyphus, you have an opportunity to keep that boulder in place. This is where this book comes into play.
The Science of Mental Circular Motion
We'll begin by delving into why. Why do our brains, these amazing organs capable of quantum physics and TikTok videos, insist on pulling us down the rabbit hole of negative thinking? We'll look at the science behind it because knowing your opponent is half the battle - and science sounds extremely smart.
Are You an Olympic Mental Gymnastics Gold Medalist?
Let's face it: some of us are so skilled at negative thinking that if it were an Olympic sport, we'd be on the podium with a gold medal around our necks. In Chapter 2, you'll discover how to identify your unique mental gymnastics brand. Is it the tried-and-true I'm not good enough
routine or the ever-popular Everything is going to go wrong
act?
Without Ruining the Lawn, Digging Up the Roots
Negative thinking did not emerge from nothing. It has roots, much like that weed in your garden. In Chapter 3, we'll pretend to be mental gardeners digging up these roots. We'll talk about prior traumas, childhood, and that moment in third grade when you addressed your instructor as Mom.
Breaking the Cycle Isn't as Difficult as Breaking the Internet
Breaking the loop of negative thinking should be accessible in a world where breaking the internet is a thing, right? It may require more than a perfectly timed selfie, but it's feasible. The fourth chapter is all about breaking these patterns. Consider it a mental pattern interrupter, like
