About this ebook

How many times have you heard that your thoughts create your reality? It's the cornerstone of most New Age thinking. But what if that's not quite true? What if there's more to it than that? Thoughts can only do so much. And at some point, trying to use mental energy to create your reality limits and traps you.
The real creative energy in the universe isn't your thoughts. It's love. Love is all there is. Your life is actually your personal definition of love reflected back to you. You didn't think your life into existence. You loved it into existence. But if your personal beliefs about love don't allow for riches, happiness or satisfying relationships, you won't get them. You can do affirmations and visualizations all day and your results will be meager. To really change your life, you need to change your personal beliefs about love. This book gives you a new way to look at the Law of Attraction while providing tools for eliminating limiting beliefs about love and showing you how to put more heart into your life.

    ABOUT THE AUTHOR

    CHAPTER 0

Before you start reading this book, take a sheet of paper and write down five or six major changes, possessions or goals you intend to manifest in your life. Don’t make a big deal out of this. You don't have to list all the attributes. Write just enough detail to let you know which desire is which.

If you want a car, write down the make and model but you don't go crazy with details. Keep it simple for now. Write down, Black Toyota or whatever car you want. You don't have to add qualifiers like In my name, easily paid for, reliable, blah blah blah… If you want a mate, just put down, boyfriend or girlfriend or husband or wife with one or two broad adjectives like perfect, healthy, loving or compatible. You don't have to write down blonde, blue eyes, 5' 8, wealthy, attractive, shares my love of oatmeal…" Keep it simple for now.

Use a pen and write it down on paper. Don’t simply make a mental note of it. Once you’ve done that, put the paper aside. We'll refer to it later at various times.

CHAPTER 1 – THE FLAW OF ATTRACTION

You have probably been told countless times in countless other books that your thoughts create your reality. Thoughts creating reality is one of the most basic premises of new age and metaphysical thinking. The premise implies prosperous thoughts should lead to a big bank account. Sad thoughts would lead to heartache and disappointment in life. One of the most basic practices among the metaphysically inclined is to try controlling or harnessing their thoughts in order to create the life they want. This practice goes by various names including The Law of Attraction, the power of positive thinking and more recently, The Secret.

You may have read already something about the Law of Attraction. You might be familiar with and possibly practiced some LOA techniques. You may have created visionboards or spoken affirmations in the mirror until you are sick of looking at yourself. Maybe you've written abundance checks on the new moon, done guided meditations with binaural beats, practiced creative visualization or even danced naked by the light of a full moon trying to raise your vibration. You may have done some of those activities but you are probably reading this book because you're still not living the life you desire. You might have done all those things and you are still lonely, broke, unfulfilled, and driving a rusted out clunker. If it's any comfort to you, you are not the only one who didn’t get the results you were promised. Not by a long shot.

The Secret as taught doesn’t work for most people. Not wanting to look like a failure or appear foolish or not spiritually adept, many students of The Secret are not willing to admit there's a problem. They attribute their lack of success to personal shortcomings. They blame themselves for not doing the various manifestation techniques well enough or often enough or hard enough. While it is a good thing to take personal responsibility, with this way of thinking, it’s never the technique or the system’s fault. This leads to a lot of self-blame which only lowers your vibration and makes the techniques even less likely to work.

In response to these widespread failures, many teachers claim to know how to make The Secret work for you. They will write books offering the secret behind the secret. They may say they have special information that was left out of the movie. Sometimes they will even claim the information was intentionally omitted to make the information seem even more special. But if you buy their books, courses or CD's as I have repeatedly, what you usually get are rehashes of the material that didn’t work in the first place.

While you have been repeatedly taught your thoughts and beliefs create your reality, the question so many people should be asking is, which thoughts specifically do the creating? The Secret and other texts will tell you the thoughts you think the most or the hardest or with the most emotional energy do the creation but often times that just doesn't seem to be the case.

In the course of the last hour I though t about driving a new Lexus, hitting the winning homerun over the right field fence, dying in an airplane crash, soup, inventing an easier way to empty the dishwasher, a plot twist for the second act of the play I haven't begun writing yet, buying a German Shepherd, taking up a musical instrument, getting my oil changed, what to make for dinner, adopting a mutt from the local animal shelter, getting a haircut, assorted citrus fruits, what I'm going to do this weekend, what I did last weekend, adopting a Golden Retriever, where to go on my next vacation, what to plant in my garden, how to improve my bowling score, what movies are opening this weekend, what to write in my blogs, and maybe I’d be better off getting a cat. My head is a very busy, very noisy place. Our culture of media saturation, sensory overload, multi-tasking, and our insatiable demand for immediate gratification has guaranteed all of us some degree of inability to concentrate on any one thing for more than few seconds before the next bright, shiny thought comes along. We all have hundreds if not thousands of thoughts per hour.

You’ve probably thought about so many different topics and thought at so many different emotional levels of intensity, how can you ever figure out which thoughts create your reality? You have probably had so many random and varied thoughts, when something happens in your life you can look back at all your past thoughts and think, Oh yeah, I guess I thought about that so that must be why it happened.

On the other hand you may have also spent a lot of time concentrating on something happening. Perhaps you focused on something like getting accepted to a particular college or obsessively fearing your child might be kidnapped or imagining being promoted at work. But when these didn't happen you slough it off as just wasted mental exertion or figured it just hasn't happened yet.

What has puzzled me and I'm sure many others is why have events happened which were so unexpected, so out of the blue, so not keeping with any general patterns of thought, they defy explanation or rationalization? You probably know someone or maybe are someone who suffered a calamitous, life-shattering tragedy that came out of nowhere. You might also know someone who experienced such outrageously good fortune nobody ever could have imagined it if they tried. If your thoughts create reality, how can your reality turn out to be something that had never crossed your mind?

Devotees of the Law of Attraction will insist you must have been thinking about it on some level or it wouldn't have happened. But that simply isn't true. Did a few hundred million people collectively think about airplanes flying into the World Trade Center or a nuclear reactor in Japan melting down? I know I wasn't consciously part of that group thought process and yet, those events still happened.

I contemplated this puzzle for years after some major crap happened in my life. After years of wondering, I had a realization that answered most of my questions. I also realized just about everything we have been taught about the law of attraction is based on such a deep, profound fundamental flaw it's amazing any law of attraction techniques work for anybody at all. This flaw is more than a fundamental flaw; it's a crafty, devious flaw that keeps people persisting at what doesn't work.

Law of Attraction teachings focus on the power of our minds to make changes in our lives. We try to improve our minds and our thoughts to make our lives better. We practice better ways of thinking to make our lives better. The emphasis is always on the mind and thinking. Some of
