THE GHOST DOG HIGHWAY TRAIL

Tobey came up coughing. He did not know where he was. He thought he could breathe but he could not tell if he was breathing. He was no longer in the water but in a small room. His head hurt. He heard Sharon’s voice; Tobey wagged his tail. He again heard the voice of his beloved mistress. Shake, Tobey, shake! In front of him were two hands, one was holding a treat, and the other was waiting for Tobey’s paw. Sharon’s voice coaxed him again, Shake hands, Tobey, shake. Tobey recognized the voice but thought it weird. All he could see were two hands. Where was the rest of Sharon?

Tobey liked playing shake. Only this time, when he shook, he was shaking a big white poodle’s paw. The poodle had a smooth voice.

"Hello, Tobey. Welcome to your new world. You are now a ghost dog. Since your owner loved you more than her own life, you will be rated as a top Ghoster. Tobey, it is possible you will be going back to your old home. It all depends on you. Your love for your owner Sharon must be as strong as her love for you. Many owners miss their dead dogs but don’t have the love for them that Sharon had for you. Most owners do not understand their pups are now alive ghosts.

Tobey, you will now be given the Love Test."

If you fail our Love Test, you will be sent to the Doggie Dump, where you will have to scrounge through ghost food scraps for at least 100 years.

THE LOVE TEST

Tobey, we are releasing two cats, one red and one black. Your reaction to the cats will determine if you go to the Doggie Dump or become a member of WAOGD. (Worldwide Association of Ghost Dogs.)

The released cats hissed and spat at Tobey. Tobey reacted like any dog and took off after the boisterous felines. Both cats went up trees. Tobey continued barking at the black cat. The black cat turned into a huge panther and jumped out of the tree. Tobey took one look at the panther and began retreating as fast as his short legs would carry him. Then he saw Sharon. A horrid realization hit him: the black panther was going after his beloved mistress. Tobey charged back, growling, and circling the panther. The panther made a killer jump
