Lee Hacklyn Private Investigator in Who Killed The Camp Christy Lake Killer? - John Leister

    NEW YORK CITY.  1980.

    CHAPTER ONE

Hi, there.  I have an appointment to see Dr. Heel.  Great name.  Too bad about the spelling.

    Why?

Her name was Trixie, according to her nametag; and she was blonde.

    Man, was she ever!

    Your name?

    Lee Hacklyn, Living Legend.

Is that Legend with an L?

No, that’s Hacklyn with an H."

Oh, here you are.  You’re early.

She made that statement with the gravitas of a Judge sentencing me to life in prison for murdering every animal at the New York Zoo.

His breath smelled like the inside of an empty bottle of Jack Daniel’s.

He sat, lit a Blue Buzzard, handed me one and I joined him.

What do you do for a living, Lee?

This doesn’t surprise anyone more than me, Doc, but I’m a private investigator.

Oh, really?  Do you watch Mannix?

    Sure.

    Do they get it right?

Well, whenever I’m knocked unconscious, I don’t wake up, after the commercial break,  tied to a chair.  I wake up in a hospital.  You watch Medical Center?

    Yeah.

    Do they get it right?

Dr. Gannon gets laid a lot more than I do.

We laughed.  My new best pal.  A doctor, of all things.  A doctor who
