Freya's POV

Freya's POV

Elaine's smile was genuine as she spoke so fondly of my parents. Nathan laid next to me while Percy stood leant against the doorway. All eyes were on Elaine as she told us the story of my parents.

'He's okay for now,' Elara said 'We're still linked with Rufus as neither of you have officially rejected one another. If he had died we would have felt it, like a snap as the connection is broken,'

'Okay,' I breathed a deep sigh of relief. 'Perhaps I should reach out to link with Rufus' mind, just to see where he is?'

'Great idea Freya!' Elara said with excitement 'At least then we can know he is safe,'

I reached out, thinking about Rufus as I built an image of him inside my head. Extending my mind to my fated mate, I attempted to make a connection to his mind. But I couldn't. It was blocked. 

'I can't do it,' I said to Elara 'But this doesn't feel like when he purposely blocks me out, it's different. As though a wall is stopping me from getting through, like a barrier,'

'How strange,' Elara said 'Perhaps something is affecting Rufus against his will, that's the only other thing I can think of' she paused 'Keep trying, hopefully we can connect to him soon,'

CHAPTER 54 Sounds from the Basement

Nathan's POV

Hearing my Mother retell the story of The Wilson's, and as many times as I had heard the story, and had lived some of it, I still felt elation. Especially now, and my eyes adoring Freya as she sat and listened to my Mother's every word, made me realise I was falling in love with her.

Well, Elaine said with a pause I should leave you two to pack for your honeymoon! A big grin spread across her proud face Everything is falling into place,

I noticed my Mother's eyes shift to Freya as she said these words, studying her carefully Nathan, you take care of her now,

I nodded Yes Mother, I didn't feel the need to give a sarcastic answer, I wanted to protect and take care of Freya for the rest of our lives.

Watching my parents leave the room, my Father gave me a swift nod of appreciation as he muttered the word Congratulations, before following my Mother out of the bedroom. My eyes swiftly snapped to Freya once more.

My love, I said with a husk, enjoying saying those words to my bride Get yourself packed and ready once you're feeling perky, I smiled warmly, admiring Freya I can't wait to get you on that plane, away from all of this,

Freya returned my smile Me neither Nathan, we both need a break, just the two of us,

I noticed Freya looked at me differently than any other time previously. Her eyes admired me, with a warm shimmer in her gaze and I felt loved. Taking her hand gently, I pulled it to my lips and gently placed a kiss on her knuckles I'll take care of you, forever,

Leaving the bedroom, my heart began to dance in my chest. This feeling that came over me was nothing I had ever experienced before, was I actually falling in love with Freya Wilson?

'What are you so happy for?' Prince asked with a snide chuckle as I descended the stairs 'Do I notice a skip in your step?'

'Things are great Prince, I feel better than I've felt in a long while,' I exhaled happily 'And I have to thank Freya for that,'

'You've changed your tune,' Prince remarked 'Don't tell me you're a one woman man now, was this wedding not a sham like the last one?'

I stopped and thought about the question Prince asked. Could I see myself being loyal to only Freya for the rest of my life? I guess I could!

'Yes' I said to Prince in reply 'I'm a one woman man, Freya is my eternity now,'

Prince groaned 'That's gross. I'm going into hiding so I don't have to listen to these gross thoughts in your head,'

'It's definitely not, I'm gaining a lot in not having to listen to your soppy drivel' Prince said before disappearing from my mind.

Laughing to myself, I reached the bottom of the staircase. It was then my eyes immediately shifted to the basement, the door was ajar which was unusual. No one ever went down there, it was unused and full of junk that hasn't been touched since I was a child.

As I approached the basement door, I watched it move as two mysterious figures appeared from behind the door. Two strangers dressed in long coats, with hoods over their heads and scarves wrapped around their mouths and nose. Their identity concealed, I had no clue who they were. 

Their sharp eyes stared into me as they passed, and I wanted to ask who they were and why they were intruding in my home, but I felt as though the words couldn't leave my lips. As though they were frozen.
