Introduction
The motivation behind this book comes from comparing my pregnancy experiences, one to the other, and wishing I had my current mindset during my earlier pregnancies. My first pregnancy was unplanned, unwanted, and kept a secret. According to me, it was never going full term. Imagine a young girl from the Midwest full of hope, ambition, and dreams headed into the southern hospitality of the Peach State. I was entering into my freshman year of college and intended to give myself a chance at life. Two weeks before departure into my new life, I was hit with a tummy ache so intense with symptoms I’ve never experienced before. I was crying, throwing up, and feeling confused. I thought to myself, maybe I need some hot tea. Low and behold, it was not hot tea I needed but a pregnancy test and a whooping. Who told me to be pregnant? This was not a part of the plan. I was devastated. I immediately called the other half of the irresponsible party involved. We took a long ride down Interstate 75; we had to pull over because the sky opened and poured out enough rain to flood a small town.
While waiting for the storm to pass, I kicked off the conversation with, I need to tell you something. I’m pregnant.
The car was already parked, so there was no need to slam on the brakes.
He said, What do you want to do?
I, not knowing this isn’t how you respond to a man you need something from, confidently said, I don’t want to have a baby by you.
I should have known then he was going to be on bullsh*t from that moment forward.
He looked me square in my face and said, OK, let’s take care of it when you get to Atlanta.
It was then my peace was settled because I trusted his words.
Fast forward months later, I was registered in school and had moved in with someone from my hometown. He was a big deal where we’re from and a big deal here in Atlanta. His best friend had a massive influence in the music industry, and the number of celebrities I encountered in such a comfortable space was beyond me.
