FOREWORD - CHILDHOOD CANCER
Every year, there is a childhood cancer awareness month but raising funds for Young Lives Vs Cancer is vital all year round.
In 2020, our youngest grandson Louis was diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer, Burkitt Lymphoma, at just 2 years old.
It was heartbreaking for the whole family but particularly for his sister and parents, who went through and continue to experience extremely anxious times.
See an article relating to Louis at the time:-

This children’s poetry book is dedicated to Louis, his sister Isabelle, our son and daughter in law, Chris and Nicki who like so many other families, have been extremely brave despite their lives having been changed forever.
As grandparents we, like so many other family members, feel the pain that our children and grandchildren, are suffering especially during the time spent waiting for the results of Louis’ six-monthly check-ups.
Every single day spent with our children and our grandchildren is precious to us.
ANCESTRAL ROOTS
Our family history takes us on many searches
With research in Record Offices and various churches
We’ve been doing this for many years
But it’s been well worth it, despite some tears
Taking photographs, meeting some new cousins
Just a few newfound relatives but not dozens
Learning your family history is to know yourself
After all, we can’t pick our family off a shelf
It’s very important to find names and places
Then through photographs, you also have faces
What jobs they did, where did they go to school
Our ancestors are forgotten as a general rule
Let’s not forget them, bring them to life
Where there’s children, there’s a husband and wife
Over each new discovery, we always rave
It’s so exciting when we find a new grave
ANTS
Ants are scavengers for sweet things like melon
But they also bit the bottom of Auntie Helen
We had the sweet melon whilst we were out together
It was a lovely day with some nice warm weather
It was part of our picnic day that we had as a family
But the ants joined in and made it a double whammy
Ants come in colonies and so outnumbered
