How to find the Guru
()
About this ebook
There is a real need for a guru if we are undertaking a spiritual journey. But before embarking on a spiritual path, we must honestly determine whether we are ready and whether our need for a guru is genuine, as opposed to just an emotional outburst. Ask yourselves this question: "Am I committed, or am I just involved?" We do not need a guru if we do not want God.
The complications in life are so great that the poor mind is unable to handle them. When we are moving blindly through the valley of life, stumbling in darkness, we need the help of someone who has eyes, who has been on the path, who has followed it to the end, and who can tell us the right way to go.
God sends the seeker indirect guidance at first, through books and lesser teachers. When the desire for Him is very strong, He sends the help of a Self-realized guru. Many are trying to lead others, but they have no right to do so. No one can take you to God unless he himself has found God. The blind can't lead the blind.
There is also a difference between a Guru and a spiritual teacher. A teacher is one who has some experience, who can guide you to a certain point, and who is perhaps capable of transmitting some spiritual power, but he would not be a guru. That does not mean that spiritual teachers are bad, but they must recognize their limitations. They must see that they do not have all the answers.
There is a need to exercise some prudence to distinguish a true guru from a sea of self-styled leaders. The fake gurus are all over the place, and they can hide themselves very well. It is thus difficult to differentiate between a fly-by-night Baba and a truly evolved Guru.
Each one of us is susceptible to exhibiting docile "cult-follower" behavior in the right/wrong circumstances. People believe that "it can never happen to them" because they want to believe they are stronger and better than the millions who have fallen victim to alleged cult mind control. Mind control is alive and well and in many varied forms across many countries.
A so-called cult will generally target the most educated, active, and capable people it can find. Such beliefs as "others could be made to do that but not me" and "others could be swayed by speeches but not me" are dangerous. The ease with which this happens is important for both scientific understanding and real-world problems ranging from friends and family in cults to extremist movements. The research by Stanford University, reproduced here, very well proves the same.
But there is a great deal we can do to stay safe, sane, and whole and to help the people we care about.
Spiritual search is indeed the inborn divine right of every human being. Knowledge and education are the birthrights of every human being. Do whatever we want; spirituality is our inner force, which has a constant pull. This pull becomes very strong at times. So strong that man has no choice. But he will have to make the right decision.
This book can be referred to as a spiritual journey book, advising on how do you go on a spiritual journey and safeguarding against cults and extreme beliefs.
God help you.

If you have no idea about meditation and have not done any type of meditation earlier, then this is for you.
The tips given here are so simple that even the busiest person can practice meditation.
Meditation is somewhat differently understood in different cultures of the world and ever so often also within the same culture. It is not concentration as is often misunderstood.
Meditation does entail concentration but it is a state of being that is much more relaxed than simple concentration. Much of the world today confuses meditation with a lot many exercises that are geared toward relaxing the mind or releasing stress.
So, no matter what your achievements are, pause and think. Introspect and impartially survey yourself. Unless and until you have truly understood what life is all about, you will always find a leak through which your happiness is constantly ebbing away. Nothing except God can satisfy you and wipe your miseries completely.
Therefore, do not be satisfied being what you are, but try to be what you can and should be. If you are one of those who are thirsty to solve your problems, or human problems in general, to understand the mysteries of life, then you need to learn the techniques of scientific meditation.
These are Spiritual practices and a higher science, in the name and style of Kriyayoga, which leads to Kundalini awakening- necessary for spiritual health and spiritual awakening- called liberation or moksha. These steps are spiritual, not religious.

Preface
I was fortunate enough to get my spiritual master who introduced me to spirituality in the name and style of Kriyayog Meditation, the ancient science, which I tried to learn with full sincerity, devotion, and dedication. I am glad to say that I have been practicing the same for the past 27 years and with each day I can see myself gradually evolving, getting higher insights, gaining spiritual maturity, and realizing the truth contained in the scriptures.
I am trying, through various channels, to impart the wisdom I acquire through the classroom lectures, the scriptures, and from the inside, with the utmost humility and responsibility. The intention is to assist and uplift readers who are beginning or are already on their spiritual journey.
To the best of my ability, I gave my body, mind, and soul, to my Guru, and his teachings to learn the science. I remain always grateful to my master for introducing me to spirituality. Whatever I know today about spirituality, I owe it to him.
To me, my Guru was like a living God. I had intended to devote the remainder of my life to my practice and my Guru. I was once committed to becoming a monk.
However, the universe had slightly different plans for me. I had some difficult lessons yet to learn, and I paid a heavy price. I discovered in due course that there remain few dark sides to people, till they reach the final realization stage.
I learned the distinction between a spiritually realized master and a spiritual teacher; the mind control techniques used by the populace; the discrepancy between what they practice and preach; the slippery path of spirituality; the vulnerability of even evolving masters to fall from grace; the susceptibility of even intelligent individuals to fall prey to the charisma of such masters; and the circumstances surrounding all such incidents.
I am emphasizing in this book, through my own experience and study, the divine bond that exists between a teacher and a disciple; the necessity of a guru for both Self- and God-realization; the characteristics of a true spiritual teacher, and the qualifications required to become deserving followers of the spiritual master.
I am also reflecting on the problems that disciples face; the spiritual confusion, and the need to distinguish a true guru from a sea of self-styled leaders. Because in the expectation of achieving the same enlightenment
that they attribute to the perfect, God-realized
master, many people end up blindly offering their devotion and unwavering obedience, giving up their independence, willpower, and life savings without much spiritual gain.
The insights into the transformative power of genuine spiritual direction are shared with the readers, offering them the guidance and wisdom they need on their journey. The darker side of contemporary spiritual movements, as collected through case studies and research, is also shown in this book—those humiliating, occasionally violent, or illegal, revelations that the movement's leaders would rather keep hidden.
The purpose is to enable the seekers to make safe and informed decisions in their spiritual journey. May God help you.
Introduction
Are you feeling lost or disconnected from your true purpose in life? Do you long for a deeper sense of spiritual fulfillment and guidance? If so, you may be considering embarking on a spiritual journey to find a guru or spiritual teacher who can help you navigate the path to enlightenment. However, with so many false gurus and cults out there, it is essential to be cautious and discerning when seeking out a spiritual guide.
There is a real need for a Guru if you are undertaking a spiritual journey.
Life is a dichotomy. Life is not simple; it is so complicated. Opposites make life, such as pleasure and pain, happiness and suffering, greed and generosity, passion and dispassion.
Life is full of opposite values, and they pull you in different directions. When the complications in life become too much, the poor mind is unable to handle them, and it just breaks down. That is when it needs support. And for that, the Guru is required.
Incarnations of good karma are required to attract the help of a true guru. We should pray and make efforts to draw the grace of the true guru into our lives until we become one with God.
God sends the seeker, indirect guidance at first, through books and lesser teachers. Only when the desire for Him is very strong, does He send help in the form of a Self-realized guru.
Accepting a guru is not the assumption of a burden! It is not a menace to a person’s free will and happiness! It is the greatest blessing that you, or anyone, can possibly have in this world.
People who are still locked up in the cage of ego often view the prospect of having a guru as a threat to their personal freedom. They do not realize that freedom is exactly what they do not have at present!
Paramhansa Yogananda.
It is no favor to the guru if the student accepts him. Rather, the student must have prayed very hard, in this lifetime and in former lives, to have earned so great a blessing. It is not that you need to go out looking for the guru. The Lord will send him to you, or else draw you to him when you are spiritually ready.
The first thing one needs to develop to be able to draw the blessings of a real guru is the natural love of the heart. It is not possible to place one foot in front of the other on the spiritual path without this natural love of the heart being unfolded. It is only when that love does unfold that you become fit to follow one who is able to guide you on the pathway to the Infinite. When we develop this natural love, we reach the point where we are fit to keep the company of a God-realized guru
Sri Yukteshwar
At that time, is it necessary to have a guru? Well, is it necessary to have somebody who really can help you to paint well? Probably. But painting, at least, is something you can see physically and work on if you have a little native talent. It is a lot more difficult when we come to the level of spiritual training which is so subtle that
