About this ebook
Retirement, like any major transition in life, comes with a whole array of emotions and worries. By thoughtfully planning in advance both financially and emotionally, we can help ease the overwhelming emotions of this significant life transition, and spend more time enjoying our new life to the fullest.
This book guides us on how to have a rewarding and dynamic life. It teaches us how to bring transformation from loss of identity, which comes with retirement, to sense of purpose. It tells us that we are not done yet and the retirement stage is a new dawn.
Society views us that way and makes us believe, after a certain stage of retirement, as useless. And unfortunately, it sinks within many of us. We don't have to allow that. This book inspires us and tells us how to take retirement as a stage to grow not stop. People in the retirement stage are too young to be old. It has nothing to do with aging.
This book is not only for those who are in the retired stage but also for everyone facing challenges in life and finding life boring and lonely.
This book is a must-read for anyone struggling to find happiness in daily life and wanting to avoid living out a retired life of mediocrity. We have the potential for happy retirement but for that, we have to plan and make it happen. Since nothing will happen automatically, this book will be of help.
The book will bring up the awareness of the various challenges, the retirees are likely to face, and show the ways to handle them for a beautiful life ahead.

Retirement Years , The New Dawn - sanjeev sareen
Dedication
This book is dedicated to my life partner,
in her loving memories.
Preface
I believe we’re all here for a reason. And we all have a story that’s worth telling. We may not be able to change the whole world, but we can certainly make it better by sharing our stories and pass on the learnings.
Around four years back, when I retired, like most of the people in this stage, I also had no idea on how to take life forward although I was aware of the fact that the life post retirement is tough if not planned properly. I was conscious of the fact that I have to keep myself engaged physically and mentally. And since I was fortunate enough to be practicing spirituality past many years, I had broadly visualised myself doing something around that. I had evaluated my Niche and it was slowly and steadily evolving up.
Nothing more than that; I had not done any study on the subject of retirement planning. Frankly speaking I had not foreseen quite a number of challenges which life could throw before me which it indeed did.
As the luck would have it, right after my retirement, the destiny snatched away my life partner whom I had banked upon for a happy retired life. We had already lined up a house and an adequate financial freedom but I landed into a situation of empty nester - with my children already living in different towns.
And, as if that was not enough, the destiny had something more in store for me around the same period. It hit me very hard on my faith part. The faith on someone, whom I was holding in a very high esteem and was banking upon for all the guidance for later part of my life; it just came crashing down. Instead of the emotional support which I was needing very badly in that time, this further added stress to my fragile mental state which was already on the verge of collapse.
My whole world stood shaken. My physical and mental state could have taken a big hit, had it not been the higher concepts which I had learned over a period in my spiritual journey. I was clear on the purpose of life and had gradually established a good amount of faith in God. The life situations did blow me up but the spirituality helped me to retain my composure. This helped me to handle the experiences the life was giving me, though painfully.
I quickly learned the most important lesson of my life around that time only. Trust on own instincts! Instead of looking for support from other quarters, I have to primarily depend more on myself, work on myself, and have faith in my own strengths. And I realised that, my pains are my own and the world doesn’t care much. Finally, it is my life. I can choose to mar it by moving with the flow of life- which was already taking me downwards, or to make it. I chose the latter.
Life still keeps me engaged with surprises on mental level, to make me realise the areas I am yet to work on. There are quite a few and I am fully aware of my weak spots. I am utilising my retirement time to work on my transformation from inside out.
Often when you think you are the end of something, you’re at the beginning of something else
Fred Rogers
Today, April 2022, it is three and half years from that stage and into so called retirement phase. With my wound still fresh and painful, I am fully working through my strength - my Niche which is spirituality, to take my life forward.
I have published three books; responded to more than 500 questions on the subject on Quora; blogging also on Medium, developed a website and started my YouTube channel; running own Facebook page, gave 23 broadcasts on Radio channel; giving daily free meditation classes; tried my hand on Sketching; thanks to YouTube learned cooking; tried my hands at gardening too; wrote 40 poems -Hindi and English both; recorded few podcasts- not released yet; meditating 5- 6 hours a day; walk one hour a day; don’t sleep in day time; 5-6 hour of night sleep is enough; no medical condition; no medicine etc.
In short, despite my challenges, I have learned to live a meaningful life in line with my core values. I am trying to leave some foot prints behind, some legacy and give back to the society in my own small ways.
And it’s not over yet! I still have few more things lined up for learning. At a certain stage in future, I also intend to shift focus, go more within than without- the ultimate objective. So that when the call comes, I leave this world happily and fearlessly to come back again in the new body with a better version of me.
I am striving to utilise the time available with me for transformation, and service. With that, I wish to live each day of my retired life.
We don’t have to accept the unfortunate situations we may be in as a part of destiny or so, but make efforts to control it. And yes, we can.
As the ancient astrologers have taught us, ‘The stars predispose but do not determine.’ Yes, the stars exert an influence, but human beings have the power to resist it, overcome it.
To illustrate how the stars affect us, take the example of a pretty young girl: when she meets a boy, she does not say, ‘Come with me, hug me.’ She does not throw herself at him, or even approach him; she may even feign indifference. But she makes herself attractive and strikes poses. Since the boy, of course, is not unaffected by this ploy, it is he who makes the advances.
