    Chapter One: The Beginning

    Most people are born into families that welcome them openly into their lives and are looking forward to it. Mine was a little different. I was put up for adoption the very day I was born, and gladly, I was indeed adopted by one of the great uncles on my father's side of the family. Why? My family had decided even before I was born that if it was a girl, she would stay with the parents in St. Louis, and if it were a boy, he would go to Detroit. Why? No idea. But I really believe it turned out to be in my favor as I got a better life and exactly where I needed to be. My adoptive parents loved me dearly, and I had a loving childhood; I truly felt valued, loved, and nurtured. I guess I was still a part of the family as well as their adoptive child.

    You could say this story is about a boy called 'Porky, the pig,' who grew up in Detroit in the '60s. I had a lot going on for myself, given it was a great time to be in Detroit. We first lived in Warren and 24 areas, and later, we moved to a street called 'Station.' My adoptive parents were the best at a very young age; I believe I was three years old when they told me, 'You don't owe us a thing.' Imagine giving a three-year-old free reins on his life. That doesn't mean I wasn't loved. I was indeed the most loved kid in all of Detroit, if you ask me. I was still disciplined and kept in my lane; I was told by my mother, Faye Kindell, that if I misbehaved or
