About this ebook

Many people do not realize the pain that some leaders carry. So much pressure is placed upon them that they are afraid to be seen as weak or vulnerable, so they hold in their feelings. Leaders often pour out everything they have to others, only to be betrayed and hurt by the people they love.

Moses

Moses (ca. 1392-1272 BC) was an Old Testament prophet and the liberator of the people of Israel. Born in Egypt during a time when the Pharaoh had ordered that all male Hebrew children be cast into the Nile River, Moses' mother is said to have placed him in a basket floating on the river where he was discovered and raised to manhood by none other than the Pharaoh's wife. As an adult, Moses witnessed an Egyptian guard beating a Hebrew slave and - attempting to stop the assault - Moses killed the guard. He fled to the desert to escape punishment and became a shepherd. Soon afterwards, he received a message from God that he should return to Egypt and demand that the Pharaoh release the Israelites from slavery. When the Pharaoh refused, Moses brought down nine terrible plagues on Egypt, forcing the Pharaoh to relent and freeing the Hebrew people. Following Moses into the desert, the children of Israel spent forty years in the wilderness, eventually arriving at Mt. Sinai which Moses ascended. He returned soon afterwards with two tablets, upon which God had inscribed what became known as the Ten Commandments.

Kimberly Moses is a prophet. As such, she has gone through so much in her life and has the battle scars to prove it. If you’re a prophet, then you have an idea of the warfare that goes along with the gift. Though Moses was challenged by the enemy, the transformation that manifested in her life is wholly supernatural. Kimberly has experienced the trauma that comes from being abused by leaders and everyday people in her life whom she trusted. Though there has been tremendous hurt in her past, she went through it all for our benefit. As a wounded leader herself, Kim has an obligation to those who are suffering in silence. I believe she’s authorized by God to heal, encourage, and deliver those that clergy have abused and vice versa. Moses wants to lighten the burden of leaders and laypersons who are carrying the weights of guilt, shame, and discouragement. The Lord has mended her spiritual injuries and bandaged her emotional wounds. Now, through her ministry and this book that you are reading, she wants you to enjoy that same freedom.

God heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds. —Psalm 147:3

In her latest book, The Wounded Leader, Kimberly Moses uses a myriad of very personal stories to teach major life lessons. Here, she generously uses Scripture throughout this literary work to give more weight to her words. Kimberly Moses explains the consequences of holding onto the offense that may come as a consequence of being hurt by someone. She is so transparent in her writing. Kimberly opens up regarding very personal encounters. Throughout this book, you can literally hear her heart! She has such a burden for wounded soldiers, and it shows on just about every page. Moses provides prayers and declarations that you can use to assist in getting healed from the things that hurt you. She also addresses the various dangers that may have been birthed out of woundedness and provides solutions to them. This work was birthed out of years of the pain that accompanies authentic ministry.

As I read her manuscript, I was amazed that she tackled some very tough subject matters such as pride, competition, dishonor, division, loneliness, etc. These are issues that many of us go through often. I believe that God has a specific assignment for many of His Leaders today. He has called them to heal the brokenhearted and bind up their wounds. I think that this is exactly what Moses’ book will do for those that read it. Her various real-world experiences are likely to resonate with much that you’ve gone through, whether you lead a church or a household. Many of the five-fold will see themselves in Moses’ accounts. If you’re a wounded leader, then this is just the book to help you to heal.

I had to go through some very trying times to write this manuscript. Writing this took me over a year because I needed to heal and not write from a wounded place. I often stopped typing and cried out to God to strengthen me to continue. If you are one of the people who hurt me and happen to read this, I love you, and my heart is not to bash you. What happened between us was something that I had to experience to get to my next level. It's my story and a part of my journey to be able to minister to leaders more effectively. Nothing in God is wasted. He used my pain for His glory.

    Introduction

Many people do not realize the pain that some leaders carry. So much pressure is placed upon them that they are afraid to be seen as weak or vulnerable, so they hold in their feelings. Not everyone can handle a leader's humanity because they have been placed on a pedestal. If a leader has a moment of weakness, their name is slandered on social media, and people question their ability to lead. People don't realize that leaders are flesh just like them. They bleed, get sick, and have emotions.

It's shocking to see many pastors commit suicide, renouncing their faith, and leaving the ministry. We don't know the intensity of the pain they may have been battling internally. Throughout scripture, various leaders are hurt by those they were leading. David's son Absalom turned against him and tried to take his kingdom (2 Samuel 15-19). Imagine how David must've felt. The devil is using your own flesh and blood to destroy you and your legacy. Your son, who you love dearly, wants to see your demise. That level of betrayal is excruciating. Yet David still had to lead because he was a mighty warrior and King with many followers.

Moses and Aaron, two prophets leading the Israelites to the Promised Land, were attacked many times by those they were leading. The sons of Korah thought they could do a better job than Moses and Aaron, and these men turned people against them (Numbers 16). Think about being in Moses' and Aaron's shoes. It hurts when you find out brother and sister so and so said such awful things about you and their real thoughts concerning you. The true intentions of their heart have now become exposed, but you still have to love them. When the attack on Moses and Aaron occurred, they fell to the ground and worshipped the Lord. The Lord eventually opened up the earth and swallowed the sons of Korah. As Moses and Aaron worshipped the Lord during a mob attack, you also have to. In the natural, thousands of men were against them, so it seemed like they were outnumbered. We must remember that there are more fighting for us than against us (2 Kings 6:16).

A leader such as a pastor, evangelist, apostle, prophet, or those on the front line in ministry have a greater target on their backs from the enemy. When God uses them extensively in healing and deliverance, this angers the enemy, causing retaliatory attacks. The same spirits that they just cast out of people will often try to attack the leader. As a result, a leader's faith and self-control must remain strong, especially under pressure.

Leaders often pour out everything they have to others, only to be betrayed and hurt by the people they love. People will quickly turn against you if you preach something they don't like. They did the same to
