    THE TAGS

To my faithful readers who requested my ‘rambling fic tags’. This is for you. I now tag this Episode as:

Soft Space Academy AU. Found family. Neil and Ben have the shortest sort of cute conversation. That Thing is lose and on the run. The Cunningham’s are very cunning. Claudia worries a lot. Ernesto isn’t sure he’s helping much. Healer Landon would like go back to his regularly scheduled routine.

    1 AFTERMATH - BEN

Ben sat on the floor of the living room of the Carlson penthouse, trying to keep a sort of neutral expression on his face. The sheer volume of instinctive urges clamoring for attention inside of his head was almost impossible to ignore.

If it wasn't for two of his three parentals in such close proximity, he was sure that he'd either be climbing the walls or tearing something to shreds.

Maybe even himself, at the way the urge was growing stronger as the time passed. His arms and legs burned with the effort of keeping still.

Minutes or hours, he couldn't tell. Just that it was taking too long.

Claudia had eventually gathered them up from the floor when she'd regained her strength. A Gheyo's constitution meant a faster recovery time and in true form, she was up and on her feet before Ben or Ernesto had pulled themselves together.

Ben wasn't sure when he'd be able to properly come back to himself. The numbness that had settled over him, had yet to properly fade away. Instead, he was subject to the angry emotions and roiling magic fighting itself to a standstill inside of him.

Neither side wanted to give in and he wasn't sure what had set them off. Normally, he could soothe his Alpha instincts enough to push them down to a manageable level, then box them up and set them aside for later.

Either meditative control or physical exhaustion would do the trick to wrestle it back to acceptable levels. Apart from the month when his inheritance had first come in, he'd never struggled quite as hard as he did now.

His magic was far easier—touching actual dirt or taking some kind of deep diving excursions usually did the trick when meditation fell short. Something about being deep underground or underwater settled something that nothing else did, save for his parentals closeness.

Right now, Ernesto was stretched out on one of the thick-cushioned sofas looking paler than Healer Landon, but obediently remaining in place while Claudia's caspered security detail kept watch.

Occasionally his worried eyes flicked between Ben, Claudia and the rest of the room, before repeating the circuit over and over again. As if he didn't dare take his eyes off of them for longer than a handful of minutes.

Ben? Claudia's head snapped around, her golden eyes flaring bright as they fixed on him with startling intensity. Breathe. Now, please. You're grinding your fangs so loudly, you might crack a tooth. What's wrong? Everyone's alright. You can see everyone’s alright.

He grimaced, stretching his jaw to feel the residual ache. A cracked tooth was the least of his worries. The restlessness of his Earthen element was the most worrisome in the moment. I think I'm gonna need a calming potion. A tremor ran through his body,
