Set before the series start of Sands of Time, when Petra is having trouble controlling her flames and worrying about her future. She lives with her parentals, sharing a room with her favorite baby sister, Felicia. The epilogue takes place seven years later, when she’s running with Ryder’s crew.

1 Petra - Felicia

Stiff shoulders rolled back as Petra leaned to the side, stretching her aching arms out overhead. The stretch was good, but it reminded her of how cold the bedroom had grown during her inattention and how tired she was from sitting still for hours on end.

Everything in the bedroom felt as stale and heavy as the sour aftertaste in her mouth. She'd forgotten to add another nutritional booster pod to her oversized water bottle.

Actually, she'd forgotten to refill the stupid thing because refilling it meant getting up and getting up meant stopping in the middle of her horrid study session and she was so close to being done, that to stop now seemed—unnecessary.

Except for now she was done, tired, hungry and very, very thirsty.

The thought of a nice blood-spiked something-or-the-other made her mouth water. Maybe even some nice super-sweet sugary delight from the dessert pantry, if she could sneak something out of there before breakfast.

Some fruit, maybe? Cream and fruit! Yes. Definitely. Something that would absolutely make her mother yell and scold, but wouldn't really hurt at all. Nutrition factors weren't that much of a headache if she kept up with her assigned Medic during training.

Even if it wasn't on her assigned meal plan, there was nothing that said she had to stick with it.

A treat or three had never hurt anyone.
