Eat Your Way to Pretty - Maia Michelle

Experience is life’s greatest teacher. I learned so much about my body while suffering through skin issues, and I continue to learn. The body deserves to be viewed in a holistic manner. It is easier to understand root causes of issues when you allow your mind to be all-encompassing toward the body. When one organ is weak, then another will be weakened, setting off a chain reaction of some sort. Therefore, a specific manifestation of disease that seems more apparent in one organ will help us prioritize our health by focusing on that organ and the subsequent organs affected. I’ve also come to value the perspective that you should treat organs with equal levels of importance. It is a common approach in Western medicine that the removal of certain organs is seen as a viable option because the body can do without them. While the body might survive without a specific organ, it is counterintuitive to think that removing an intricate piece of a puzzle wouldn’t have an adverse effect on the whole.

During a procedure called a splenectomy, the organ is removed. It is apparently okay to do so because your liver and lymph nodes can take over its duties. It is beautiful to know that your body is supportive of your survival and that it will do whatever is necessary to ensure you survive. But I’d rather have the whole squad of organs supporting me and providing me with all the support I can get. The body works tremendously hard to keep you alive, despite whatever external factors come your way. Instead of removing supportive members of your squad, why not keep them on your team? How can you continue to work with the organs you were given and be more supportive of them? Simply by allowing them to detox! When you work with your body through periodic fasting and by eating properly combined foods (fruits and vegetables), you
