I Am Woman - Susan Byrne

    INTRODUCTION

In life, we all have journeys that we must attend. There may be times on the path when we become unwell. There may be times when we find ourselves in difficult positions emotionally and financially or when we may struggle with our mental health. In these moments, there are periods of wondering how can we move on from here? We may find ourselves or a loved one with a health condition, whether physical or emotional, that we were not prepared for. Life's journey can leave you depleted and looking for answers to regain personal control and get your health and energy levels to an optimal level.

I run a busy clinic specialising in women's and children's health. I work with lifestyle education incorporating nutrition, herbal medicine, and hypnotherapy. In this book, I have also offered insight into other modalities that can help treat the patient holistically. I have sought to assist others in their healing journey with natural health practices steeped in integrity and sturdy health ethics. I encourage you to put yourself first and take the steps that will benefit you most significantly.

It is so apparent to me in my practice that our thoughts and feelings, the way we see things and our belief systems dictate how well we care for our bodies. We often neglect our needs because we may believe we don't deserve the best. So let me state that you deserve the best, and my book will offer you options to achieve YOUR best.

In the Western world, age brings with it many negative connotations, youth and youthful beauty are often celebrated to the extreme, perhaps even worshipped. The contrast is a shame in many ways because it can adversely affect the positive elements of growing older. Be happy, be content. Don't judge yourself as you age. Be grateful that you can mature, for with age comes wisdom. The woman has many stages of life that bring lessons, learning, and choices. As the woman gains years, she gains knowledge, insight and wisdom. Her beauty remains, but it is undoubtedly different as it should be. Anti-aging worship has developed over decades and is the most prevalent in the Western world. The commercialisation of cosmetics, creams, surgery, anti-this and anti-that send a loud and strong message that is, in my opinion, a dangerous slight on womanhood and absolute garbage. Women are beautiful in all stages; they are just different. Therefore, these age seasons should be celebrated and treasured. Once you embrace this thought process and activate it, you will gain much in body, mind, and spirit. There is nothing wrong with feeling healthy and wonderful at any age, and our body can better cope with the world environment, including our genetic predispositions.

You will have heard the term well-being thrown around recently. There is a good reason for this. Science is finally catching up and the statistics pouring out of global studies echo the same result repeatedly- our mind, body, and spiritual health are vital for happiness and long life. Recently, the Centre for Economic Performance (CEP) presented for the first time the results of their monumental study of the Origins of Happiness, analysing survey data from four countries. "The evidence shows that the things that matter most for our happiness and misery are our social relationships and mental and physical health. This demands a new role for the state – not 'wealth creation' but 'well-being’ creation.

Your being needs to be well.

Be the Goddess you were put on this planet to be. Be powerful and always look to attain a higher self, The 'Goddess' self.

Please enjoy this book and seek out practitioners that can assist you in your journey on this river we call life.

Opening yourself up to your Goddess within is to reach your full potential.

These seasons of our life have value and are precious.

    THE CHANGING SELF

    Don't fear change. Fear procrastination.

Give your love wholeheartedly but protect yourself at all costs. You cannot help others if you cannot help yourself. This lesson took me some fifty years to learn, so I encourage others to learn it young. I teach my daughter daily to work out where you fit in. Finding what you want to do with a passion and pursuing your dreams takes time. I was a nurse for many years before I decided I wanted to find out why people had to become so sick.

Everybody has different reasons for doing what they do. Whatever you are doing serves you in some way. Negatively or positively. Do not stay doing the same thing for any other reason than because you enjoy it. Foster bravery and try something new if what you are doing becomes boring, too hard, or too easy. You have one shot at life so embrace it now.

I have learned many lessons since becoming a naturopath. One stands out; regardless of how much you learn, there is still a whole world of learning out there! You will never know it all! I set up a great practice in Ballarat, and it was doing very well. Then, the opportunity arose for me to move to Darwin, and this would be an exciting change of scenery and a new way to broaden my horizons. I understood that the move would be quite daring as I felt entirely in control of my established business, but never one to back down from a challenge; I decided to give it a go.

I believe we should all step out of our comfort zones and embark on new horizons just because we can. It is always challenging starting again after having an established practice, but it is always exciting putting yourself out there to give things a go.

I started doing Iridology in the local markets around Darwin and quickly became known. Don't get me wrong when I say this but doing markets was never a way that I thought I would build my business!

It is backbreaking work when you implement change in your world and put yourself out there in a new environment. People may not be familiar with what you are doing, and you may be open to ridicule, and there were times when I stood in that marquee just numbly smiling at passers-by hoping that they would come in and test my skills. But this process-built resilience and courage and grew a following!

After a short time in Darwin, with the wet season arriving and feeling homesick, I decided moving back to Victoria was what I needed to do. So, I was starting again, this time in Geelong.

It takes two years to set up a good business, so off I went. This job is my passion, and nothing is going to stop me.

'Passion' I believe this word is the most important in the English language. Lose your passion for anything or
