Prologue

By 2068 AD the Earth was home to over 30 billion inhabitants who shared limited resources of water, food and safe housing. The oceans had risen as the polar ice melted and many large cities such as London and New York, succumbed to the floods.

The air was polluted and the future of life on Earth became uncertain. This was when a guild of international scientists proposed a radical plan of building six huge spacecraft that could house thousands of people and send them out into space to planets similar to Earth. Using radical new Cribbs-Outram Black Matter hyperspace engines, they were able to journey huge distances, in relatively short periods of time.

This is the account of one of those huge space cities named New Endeavour and, its last year in a five-year journey to Proxima B in the Alpha Centauri constellation, as seen through the eyes of a twenty-year-old young woman, Lara and her new companions.
