The memory of man. What a wonderful machine - when it works as it should. Unfortunately, all too often there are, well, let's just call them bumps in the road.
How many times have I misplaced the keys? Or walked into a room to retrieve an item, only to be greeted with the taunt, What did I come here for?
The Internet version is a modern addition to the faulty short-term memory. Take your laptop or smartphone out to look for something, only to get distracted and forget the original reason for using your computer.
Yes, the 21st century gives you plenty of opportunities to demonstrate how poor your memory is. But the good news is just around the corner. In order to trick your short memory as often as possible, many methods - and others - are being used to boost your memory.
BRAIN TRAINING BASICS
Everybody would like to work best with their intelligence–whether you want to be strong to keep up with your kids or work. The exciting thing is that science now reveals what works and what does not. Training your brain must not be a case of a test and a mistake any longer–try one thing, find out it doesn't work and try another thing.
People who use their brains more effectively tend to have better jobs, better relationships and happier and more successful lives. And here is the exciting thing: you can change your mind and change your circumstances as a result. While you may have been told for some time that you are stuck with your brain, science has now found it is not true!
The plasticity of the brain: The wonderful ability of the brain to adapt and change over a lifetime–is an exciting and growing area. And the great thing is that you have the ability to change your brain to help it work better. Brain training doesn't have to include a major life overhaul. Here are some simple tips to start:
No time? Carry a few blueberries out of the way, play a brain game while you are driving, and spend a few minutes every day.
No energy? Discover the best practice to improve your brain (your body will thank you also); gain the benefits of green tea; and learn about your brain's ability to sleep.
No incentive? Not only do friendships increase inspiration, they also boost your brain power! Spend just ten minutes socializing to enjoy the same benefits as a crossword puzzle for your brain.
Knowing Your Brain
You have heard about the left brain and the right brain. Ok, the brain consists of the left and right hemispheres and has separate functions. Though, some people are just' left brainers' and some are' right brainers.' It's not necessarily true.
For starters, language skills are in the left hemisphere and this part of the brain is used by everyone! You don't have to hide behind the excuse of being a right brainer so that you can't recall names. Through the activities in this book, you will reach the maximum amount in both halves of your brain.
Key players exist in the field of brain training. Perhaps significantly, the different brain components don't function alone–they come together like a team. The rest always profits when you train one part of the brain. You can think of the brain as an orchestra or as sports teams. The idea is the same–the rest of the team cannot be borne by one-star player. Both of them must work together.
Short and Long Memory
Your brain store knowledge that you find momentarily in your short-term memory. Long and short. You will transfer the information to your long-term memory when you repeat the information often. Generally, you have access to it forever because it is in your long-term memory.
Long-Term Memory
This consists of many different types of memories:
Autobiographical memories. For starters, childhood memories and significant events are known as autobiographical memories. Such kinds of memories are very powerful, and their loss can be a good early sign of Alzheimer's disease and dementia. You can do a lot to keep these memories fresh.
Semantic memory. Your interpretation of facts and random bits of information is known as semantic memory, which is very useful to transfer new information from short-term to long-term memory. Find out the best strategies that works best.
For procedural memory. Procedural memory is an inherent ability you needn't even think about–like driving a car or writing your name. You will figure out how to automate new things to help the brain work more efficiently.
Short-Term Memory
This is responsible for remembering verbal, visual and spatial knowledge. People usually don't remember items for well in their short-term memory, even if they make a deliberate effort to' transfer' them to well-term stores. There are a few opportunities to leverage your short-term memory.
Verbal: Do you forget what you said in the middle of a talk? Find yourself on the top of the stairs and don't know why you climbed up? These are common symptoms and do not suggest significant memory loss. If you want to keep your brain in top form, however, learn how to preserve your language skills. If you want to recall or prevent a memory loss when growing old, your brain will resolve symptoms of Alzheimer's disease by keeping you busy.
Visual: Why do some people look so familiar, but you have trouble recalling their names? This is an example of working visual memory. Use tricks to improve the brain in recognizing faces and other visual knowledge.
Spatial: Do you still have trouble recalling directions? Spatial memory holds the key to finding the right place rather than the wrong area. One trick is to take a bird's eye view in a new location.
Developing A Healthy and Sound Brain
Developing a balanced brain is your state of being. Are you happy? Are you happy? When are you disappointed? Do you feel stressed? Who worries you? Questions like these are crucial to determining how well your brain is working. Pay attention to your mental wellbeing - it can make the difference between a happy life and a depressed one.
Don't take your passions and hobbies for granted. Find out how they make your brain more innovative. A smarter brain is a more innovative brain. Whether you are a music fan or a budding researcher, there are many activities you can choose to support your brain.
You should choose to be positive about your mental health. You can honestly believe that changing situations will make your life easier and change it for you. But it's never the case.
It's easy to get caught up in the many things that need your attention every day. But in this ever-demanding world, it is increasingly important to find time to quiet your brain and create a space for reflection. Quiet time has enormous benefits for the brain. You do not have to be a nun or a monk to enjoy the benefits of meditation for hours on end. Scientific research has shown that even 10 minutes a day can have a significant impact on the way your brain works.
A perfect way to exercise the brain is to keep it socially engaged. Talking on the phone, going out for
