Chapter 1

In a world not very distant from our own home, where elves, humans, ogres, and dwarves coexist in a parallel era, we find a boy named Sam. He resides in a modest community in Chilla and from a very young age, he did tell his mother about his ambition to become one of the wealthiest people in the world when he grew up. His mother's response was always the same: she explained that if he had his own home, a good job, and a loving partner, then he would become the richest man in the world, and she would be proud of him no matter what.

When Sam started school, the teacher used to inquire about the dreams of each student, asking them what they wanted to be in the future. When it was Sam's turn, he declared with determination that he wanted to be one of the wealthiest individuals on the planet. The other children in the class reacted by laughing at him. However, the teacher, fixing her gaze on Sam, gave him a smile and told everyone that she firmly believed Sam had the potential to achieve that dream. Silence fell upon the classroom, astonished by the teacher's words.

Then, the teacher posed a new question to Sam, seeking to know his thoughts on how he would make his desire a reality. Sam admitted that he was not sure yet, but he mentioned his desire to start his own company, although he still didn't know which sector he would venture into.

Years later...

In the last year of high school, when Sam was 17 years old, his longing to achieve wealth continued to burn inside him. Most school subjects didn't capture his interest, except one: Economics. Despite this, Sam was a good student. While attending school, he spent hours watching videos about people becoming millionaires, starting their own businesses, or finding their life purpose that led them to success. In these videos, Sam saw seemingly absurd ideas that others had, but despite that, they led to astonishing success. Sam wondered why he hadn't thought of something like that before and why he hadn't discovered his own purpose yet.

One night, while Sam was in his room reflecting on his life and whether he really wanted to go to college, he made a decision that would change his destiny. He decided not to go to college and instead focus on pursuing his dream of achieving wealth. However, he promised himself that he would finish his last year of high school. Sam firmly believed that it was the right time to chase his dream, but he faced a challenge: he had no clear idea of how to achieve it.

That's when he remembered a YouTube video talking about the importance of finding a mentor who could guide him on his path to success. That idea resonated in his mind, and he decided that when he found that mentor, he would ask them how he, too, could achieve wealth. This idea solidified in his mind as a strong and exciting plan.

Without wasting time, Sam opened his browser and started looking up the wealthiest people in the world. In the first window he explored, he found ten individuals who didn't capture his attention. In the second window, he discovered the 25 wealthiest people, but again, he wasn't convinced, as many of them lived far away or were from other countries. Finally, he opened the third window and found a list of the 100 wealthiest people in the world.

To his surprise, out of those hundred people, sixty were elves. That left Sam perplexed. Following the list, he discovered that ten of them were dwarves, fifteen were men, and another fifteen were ogres. This fact caught his attention powerfully, and with closed eyes, Sam repeated the word elves silently. At that moment, a revolutionary idea took hold of him: he had never met a poor elf, they always seemed to be wealthy, successful, and dedicated to high-performance sports, leading large companies, or enjoying a family fortune. Sam told himself he had found the path to follow: he would seek out an elf who could teach him how to achieve his goal of becoming rich.

Drenched in excitement over this brilliant idea, Sam faced a new challenge: he had never seen an elf in his neighbourhood. However, this didn't discourage him. He left his room and found his mother still awake, watching videos on her phone.

He approached her and asked her where he could find elves. His mother replied that he would probably find them in Cairo, one of the wealthiest states. Although Cairo was four hours away by train, Sam wasn't intimidated. He asked his mother which trains passed through there, and she assured him that all trains did since Cairo was a central location. He just needed to find out the departure times.

With a smile on her face, his mother expressed that it was a magnificent idea and asked him when he planned to travel to Cairo. Sam responded with determination, this Saturday. His mother checked the calendar on her phone and reminded him that today was Thursday and that it was already 11 o'clock at night. Sam confidently replied that he would wake up early to organise everything he needed. His mother started typing something on her phone, called him, and showed him a list with the train schedules. Sam chose the 6 o'clock in the morning schedule. His mother looked at him surprised and asked if he was sure he would wake up so early. Sam assured her that he would, and his mother told him not to worry, as she would make sure to wake him up. They shared a conspiratorial laugh before saying goodnight with a kiss on the forehead. Sam returned to his room to sleep and dream about his grand adventure.

The next day, Sam woke up early to buy his round-trip ticket on the train. He prepared everything he would need for his big day, anticipating every detail. When Saturday at 5 in the morning arrived, his mother approached his room to wake him up. Upon opening the door, she was surprised to see that Sam was already awake and fully ready. Startled, she asked Sam why he had gotten up so early. Sam responded, excited by the prospect of what he was about to do, that the excitement had propelled him. His mother smiled and informed him that breakfast was ready. They went downstairs together, and while Sam had his breakfast, his mother commented that she wished he had the same energy when he had to get up for school. They laughed together, and Sam began to enjoy his breakfast. Then, his mother accompanied him to the train station.

Before the train arrived, his mother reminded him to call her when he reached Cairo to ensure he had arrived safely. Sam boarded the train and set an alarm on his phone for 9:40 in the morning in case he fell asleep during the journey. Fifteen minutes after boarding, tiredness overcame Sam, and he decided to put his phone in his pocket, cover his face with his cap, and embrace his backpack. He fell into a deep sleep, immersed in a comforting dream.

Sam's phone vibrated, interrupting his sleep. He woke up in a state of confusion, as if he had arrived in a completely new place. Sam gazed out of the train window until they finally reached the station. As he got off, he was struck by the majesty of Cairo. Everything in that place was immaculate and advanced. People dressed elegantly and showed friendliness toward each other. As Sam walked away from the station, he encountered imposing buildings with peculiar shapes and vibrant colours. The passing cars were all new and luxurious. As he walked, Sam remembered that he needed to call his mother to tell her about his awe at the city. After the call, Sam told himself, Now, it's time to find an elf who can teach me how to become rich. As he continued walking, Sam observed attentively everything that Cairo had to offer.

As he went on, Sam took out his phone and headphones from his pocket to listen to music. When he looked up, he noticed a café a few metres away. There were two black armoured jeeps parked nearby, but he didn't pay much attention to them. Sam continued walking, looking for the perfect song when suddenly someone stumbled and spilled coffee on him. Sam became angry and turned to confront the person responsible. When he looked up, he found himself facing an elf. Sam reproached him for not watching where he was going, and the elf apologised, explaining that he was distracted, looking at his phone upside down. While they were arguing, Sam noticed out of the corner of his eye that some men dressed in black were coming out of the armoured jeeps. At that moment, the elf offered to accompany Sam and his bodyguards to a clothing store to buy a new white shirt or, if he preferred, he would give him the money and he could go alone. Sam decided to accept the elf's invitation and his bodyguards, but he had a condition: he wanted the elf to teach him how he could also become rich. The elf was surprised and asked why he should teach Sam how to do it. Sam explained that he had read books about becoming rich, but he didn't know how to create something of his own or invest in real estate without having a million dollars, and that business opportunities on the internet were already saturated. Additionally, he had travelled from Chile there just to find an elf who could show him the way to wealth. As Sam shared all these concerns with the elf, he listened attentively. Finally, the elf headed toward his armoured jeep, where the bodyguards were, and suddenly Sam heard the elf say, are you coming?. Upon hearing that, Sam hastened his steps to join the elf in the jeep.

Before the door they were about to enter, the elf extended his hand and told Sam his name was Elfdarion. Sam also extended his hand and introduced himself as Sam. Upon entering, Elfdarion asked Sam which clothing brand he preferred or if he had a specific store in mind to buy his shirt. Sam replied that he didn't mind, that any brand was fine. Elfdarion gave him a lesson: Always ask for what you want, never settle for the minimum because that's what you'll get. Life is sometimes like that, when you try to sell something, you should always start with a high price and then negotiate it down to an agreement. This way, you'll have more chances of getting what you desire. If you start with the minimum amount, you won't have room to play with the price, and you'll end up losing or settling for the minimum. And you should do this in everything you do, not just with clothes but with everything else in life. That's one of the reasons why some have a lot and others only have the minimum to live.

Then, Elfdarion asked him in which specific store or brand he wanted to buy his shirt, and he responded that he wanted a Nike shirt. Elfdarion said he knew a Nike store nearby. As they headed towards that store, they saw someone selling shirts for $10 on the street. Elfdarion pointed out through the window and told Sam, You went from a shirt from here to a Nike shirt. I hope it's a good lesson. Elfdarion continued speaking and mentioned that his father once told him that if you don't ask life for what you want, it will give you any available options, whether they are good or bad. So, Sam asked what he should have done if, for example, Elfdarion hadn't been able to buy the Nike shirt for him. The elf replied that he should have asked life what the best option was or the option closest to what he desired. Always ask for the best option.

The rest of the way, Sam and Elfdarion rode in silence. There was a background melody, and he could hear a man speaking, along with very relaxing natural sounds. After 10 minutes, they arrived at the Nike clothing store. They stopped in front of the store, and the bodyguards got off first, followed by the elf, and finally Sam. They entered the store, Sam picked out his shirt, Elfdarion paid the bill, and then they returned to the jeeps. Elfdarion asked Sam what he wanted to know, and Sam replied that he wanted to know how to be successful in all areas of his life.

Grateful

Then, Elfdarion said , Let's begin the lessons, Sam. An elf is always grateful for what they have. Are you grateful for what you have? Sam admitted that sometimes he was, and other times he wasn't, and asked what that had to do with reaching his goal. Elfdarion explained that life is like a magnet; it will attract good or bad things depending on you. Whatever you focus on, you will attract more of it. And the more grateful you are for the things you have, the more good things will happen to you or you'll have in life. This will help you see life more positively, as there are many reasons to be ungrateful and also to be grateful.

Elfdarion asked Sam, Have you heard the story of the grateful dwarf? Sam replied, No, what story is that?

The grateful dwarf

The elf began to tell him: Once upon a time, there was a very grateful dwarf who always expressed his gratitude in every situation. One day, after selling all his products at the market, he was heading home with a large haul. While cheerfully singing, one of the main ropes holding his horses and carriage broke. But, as always, the dwarf gave thanks, as he believed that you never know why things happen.

The dwarf got down from the carriage and went to the back to fix the problem. At that moment, he saw his friend passing by the road, who told him he would get home before nightfall. Without worry, the grateful dwarf replied, Go ahead; I'll catch up with you later. His friend nodded and continued on his way.

After about 15 minutes of fixing the ropes, the dwarf got back on his horse and continued his journey. Two hours later, he found his friend walking along the road, visibly upset. The dwarf asked him what happened, and his friend replied that he had been robbed by thieves who took everything from him. At that moment, the grateful dwarf reminded him, They didn't take everything because you still have your life and your old friend. Although his friend remained angry, the dwarf continued, saying, You know, thieves rarely leave their victims alive or unharmed. You know that I always try to see the bright side of things.

The dwarf's friend admitted that he was right and reproached him, If you were in my place, I wonder if you'd be as grateful as you are now? The grateful dwarf responded, I always try to find reasons to be grateful. Sometimes it's difficult, but it helps me face the adversities of life. The grateful dwarf offered some money to his friend to help him with his loss, telling him that he would always be there to provide encouragement and words of comfort to any victims of tragedy.
