About this ebook

With an expanding work—both local and international—there is pressing demand for new leaders.

Emerging leaders often observe the deficiencies in the ministries of those who have long occupied center stage. Filled with innovative ideas and creativity, they aspire to bring something out of the ordinary—the very essence of God's creativity. Yet, the God of creativity demands that His creatures do not tamper with His design. The work of God must be carried out in God's way. The curse of carnal service lies in its ineffectiveness. Natural attributes, worldly achievements, and scholarly prowess can only be instrumental in God's service if the Holy Spirit chooses to employ them.

The Power of Brokenness takes you on an extraordinary journey into the heart of effective Christian leadership, uncovering the hidden strength found in embracing brokenness. The author, Theodore Andoseh, artfully weaves insights from biblical narratives, particularly the transformative story of Moses—once a prospective Pharaoh, with vast knowledge, martial expertise, and numerous conquests under his belt—to demonstrate the work of God within the inner man, preparing the servant of God for usefulness and effectiveness in their divine calling.

Brokenness, though painful, is not a negative force. The mighty prince proved ineffective, but it was the broken shepherd in God's hands who served the Lord with remarkable effectiveness. The elite Moses proved useless and could only save one person, who did not even leave Egypt. However, the broken Moses fulfilled his calling in the might of the Lord and led over three million people out of Egypt.

As you read through the lines of this book, may the Lord open your eyes to the power of brokenness and its centrality in the service of the Lord.

    FOREWORD

The profound message within the pages of this book was originally delivered during a capacity-building course at the World University of Prayer and Fasting (WUPF) for youth and student leaders in February 2023 in Koumé – Bertoua, Cameroon. At its core, this book delves into a fundamental need for every emerging leader—brokenness.

As time passes, many leaders who once walked alongside Brother Zach and served the Lord have transitioned to be with Him. However, God's abundant blessings continue to expand the work in Cameroon and beyond, creating a pressing demand for new leaders.

Emerging leaders often observe the deficiencies in the ministries of those who have long occupied center stage. Filled with innovative ideas and creativity, they aspire to bring something out of the ordinary—the essence of God's creativity.

Consider the case of Moses, once a prospective Pharaoh, with vast knowledge, martial expertise, and numerous conquests under his belt. When he realized that God wanted him to deliver the Hebrews from bondage in Egypt, Moses embarked on his mission but found himself only able to save one Israelite from death. Fleeing Pharaoh's wrath, the one called to save needed salvation himself! It was through the school of brokenness in Midian that God molded Moses. After forty years in a foreign land, Moses humbled himself and recognized his utter inadequacy, realizing he was nothing, had nothing, and could do nothing before God. It was then that God empowered and commissioned him. His simple shepherd's staff transformed into the mighty rod of God, performing miracles and yielding great effectiveness.

Four hundred years earlier, shepherds were despised by the Egyptians. Yet, God made the prince of Egypt a shepherd. The mighty prince proved ineffective, but it was the broken shepherd in God's hands who served the Lord with remarkable effectiveness.

Brokenness, though painful, is not a negative force; it is the work of God within the inner man, preparing the servant of God for usefulness and effectiveness in their divine calling. The elite Moses could only save one person, who did not even leave Egypt. However, the broken Moses led over three million people out of Egypt, journeying with them through the desert toward the promised land, in the immediate presence of God and the power of the Almighty, performing great signs and miracles. The elite Moses proved useless, but the broken Moses fulfilled his calling in the might of the Lord.

As you read through the lines of this book, may the Lord open your eyes to the power of brokenness and its centrality in the service of the Lord.

    INTRODUCTION

PRAYER MINISTERS FOR THE SALVATION OF CHILDREN

There are many facets of the ministry to children. We have evangelists to children, pastors of children, but we also ought to have intercessors for children. I think normally, in every assembly or local church, amongst the ministers to children, we ought to have some to whom we give the names of all the children of the believers in that assembly to pray for their salvation.

Pray that we organise our ministry to children to be effective.

A TRANSITION IN THE YOUTH AND STUDENTS’ MINISTRY

I always begin this course by recalling the goals of the Youth and Students Ministry and summarising the previous year’s course. Why should I not start this time by asking you to come and do it? We are going through a transition this year to take the students and youth camps into camps for students’ and youth leaders. We are doing a transition. So, I must make sure that as many of you will scatter to hold youth Bible camps, that you do it at least as I do, and do better. The minimum is that you do as I have done it. And what is expected is that you do better than I have done it.

One aspect was left out, one. I always present the contemporary context of our ministry. I never forget it. So that it may give us a sense of relevance. Where is our world going? What must we be to our world now so as to be the salt of the earth and the light of the world? What must we be to a world that is in convolution? What must we be?

We recall the objectives because we ought to know where we are relative to those objectives. We try to ensure continuity in the course of this year relative to the course of last year. But we always bring it down to our global context. Every sailor and every pilot navigates taking into account the movement of all the winds. The winds and the storms are factored into all navigation. In the same way, leadership must take into consideration trends. All leadership must take into consideration the mega-trends and the sub-trends; if not, you can become anachronistic. You can fossilise and become an archaeological reality – relevant to the past but totally irrelevant with regards to where the world is going now and what the current needs are. It is to help the frogs become eagles. The frog micro-manages its little universe, but the eagle has the possibility to see far, very far. When you are handling only your needs, your hurts, your environment, you are a frog, a believing frog.

    YOU ARE RELEVANT TODAY

We must be relevant, but we must rise outside ourselves and see the world around us and find our place in the times in which God has placed us. It is not for nothing that God made you to be alive at this time. You were born into a time like this. You were born for the challenges that are ahead of us now. You were born to carry the name of God in a post-Covid world. You were born to be the champion of the Gospel in a world that is in depression. You were born for a time like this. We were born to be alive at this time and to be relevant to the Kingdom of God now.

Anyone who is among the living has hope — even a live dog is better off than a dead lion! (Ecclesiastes 9:4)

The wise man Solomon says, better a live dog than a dead lion. Apostle Paul is a big lion. Brother Zach, a colossal lion. People like us, we may be little dogs. But the Bible says a dog which is alive is better than a lion which is dead, because a little dog can
