Wicked II - Jackpot Grace
Chapter 1
Saint Louis, Missouri:
I ain’t gone say it again. Getcho shit together before we have a problem boy.
Xzander’s father kept a tight grip on the back of his neck. Xzander could smell the whiskey on his father's breath, but he would rather him be out here bullying him instead of his mother and sister.
A 10 year old Xzander stood with his father's rifle in his hands aiming at the corona beer bottles lined up on the roof of their all black ‘70 GMC truck. On my worst day I could shoot all 5 bottles in under a second, you'll never be as good as me boy.
His grip grew tighter around Xzander's neck, and as much as he wanted to cry he knew it was the wrong move. His father didn't react well to emotions being displayed, so he never showed them. He did whatever he had to do to protect his mother and sister. Now shoot and don't fuckin miss. You out here wastin' my time.
Xzander was already nervous, the tight grip around his neck and the smell of the alcohol on his father's breath made him nervous. Xzander pulled the trigger missing the first bottle and before he could even look at his father the empty bottle of beer he'd had in his hand was smashed over the top of Xzander's head. He pulled Xzander up by his shirt making him stand up.
Xzavier stop!
Xzander's mom shouted as she came onto the porch with True behind her. She was tired of the way her son was being treated, she was tired of the family walking on eggshells living miserably because of him.
Woman don't come tryina tell me how to raise my boy!
The slurring in his words made it clear he was drunk.
Come in the house Xzander-
I ain't say he could go in, you got yo child from yo first marriage this one is mine Bitch.
He hissed making his way toward her. She'd put True behind her backing back into the house.
Xzander ran into the house after he'd hard a loud smack. His father was now standing with a gun pressed up against his sister's head, You want yo mama or yo sister?
His father asked.
Xzavier don-
Bitch I was talkin to my son!
Xzavier shouted at his wife, Which one?!
He shouted at Xzander, Xzander looked his big sister in the eyes. He loved his mother, but even in his darkest times his sister was all he had. If he had to choose he would choose his sister.
I-I-
Xzander stopped talking, his voice was shaking. Why was he being like this? Xzander didn't understand.
Pick or I kill both!
Xzavier spoke spitefully.
I-I pick True.
Xzander said quickly picking his sister. Xzavier pushed True out of his way aiming the gun at his wife.
Come here son.
Xzavier said, he pulled Xzander in front of him. He stood behind him placing the gun perfectly in his hand. Miss this and it'll be both of them.
He whispered in his ear. Shoot now.
He spoke sternly, the tears that sat at the brink of Xzander's eyes as he stared at his mother. He hesitated, and the moment he felt that familiar grip on the back of his neck he closed his eyes as tight as he could pulling the trigger and this one didn't miss like he'd hoped. This bullet? This bullet went right through his mother's heart, breaking his heart in the process. He'd dropped the gun and dropped to his knees as his father laughed.
X.
True spoke lowly knocking on her little brother's door. He sat up quickly coming back from his flash back, Can I sleep with you?
Xzander nodded patting the spot next to him in the bed.
True climbed into bed next her brother, You okay?
He asked
That man hates me, one day-
And Imma kill him.
Xzander spoke up before his sister could finish her sentence. Everyday he grew a deeper hate for his father, he had moved them from the only place they knew as home. Los Angeles was nothing like Saint Louis, and his dad had every reason to run. How would he explain the disappearance of his wife to everyone? They’d lived in Saint Louis all their lives and were well known, it was no way they would overlook his wife’s disappearance. So he made all of them disappear, he got rid of his wife’s body and moved to LA the next day.
Chill baby bro.
True said laying her head on his shoulder. Remember it could always be worse.
Xzander placed a kiss on her forehead.
I ain't gone let shit happen to you T.
He promised, he laid back down and she laid her head on his chest closing her eyes. Xzander stared at the ceiling allowing his mind to race back into the past.
Wanna know why I starve these suckers?
Xzander's father asked him as he helped him drag his mother's dead body out the back door, X’s dad owned a huge 5 bedroom ranch with thousands of acres of land, and plenty of animals. People came from everywhere to visit the Flynn Farm, it was passed down to Xzavier by his father, it used to be a plantation. His family didn’t approve of the little black girl and her daughter that Xzavier brought around. At one point Xzavier didn’t care what his family thought, he, a white man, was in love with Trudy a black woman and he was proud of it even if his family wasn’t. His family gave him the family plantation and no money he had to figure it out without the family money he was so used to. Xzavier turned that plantation into a farm that became very popular attraction in Saint Louis. Money wasn’t great at first, but he was getting by, he made enough to support his wife and step daughter. Then she had gotten pregnant with Xzander, Xzavier enlisted in the Army the next day. He was able to financially support his family and they’re business. True and Trudy worked hard to maintain the farm and raise baby X. When Xzavier finally came home after serving 10 years he was not the same. They had learned he had been kidnapped he was MIA in Afghanistan and the things they did to break him were terrible. Yet, Xzavier didn’t break, but he did lose himself and his mind.
The hogs?
Xzander asked, his father had a smirk on his face. Xzander was confused, he was all over the place yet he was scared to display even a small amount of emotion. He was carrying his mother's dead body, it was hard for him to see her like that. He had to bottle that up, it was no room for grieving.
On the count of three toss her over the fence.
In there with the hogs dad?
He asked confused
Just do what I say boy.
And Xzander nodded. 1, 2, 3.
Once he got to three Xzander had tossed her over the fence with just as much force as his father. Xzander watched them attack his mother's body hungrily. Best way to get rid of evidence. Now let me show you how to clean a crime scene up military style.
his father was excited and that scared X. If he had this much of a rush killing his wife, who would he kill next? Xzander would stay in line to keep True protected his sister was all he had left.
X, let’s go.
Xzavier said standing in Xzander’s doorway, he had a budweiser in his hand. Xzavier made it his business to survive when he was missing in action over in Afghanistan. He’d been captured, tortured, but he fought his way out. He escaped, nobody came to rescue him and that’s all he knew. He unintentionally blamed his family for not having the guts to come looking for him, but if he created a monster out of his son, he knew Xzander wouldn’t have anything to worry about.
Xzavier taught Xzander everything he knew, and he made him practice it everyday for 18 hours. Sometimes 20 hours,
Xzavier was the first white man in his family to marry outside his race, and they didn't approve. They tried to like his wife, and they tried to love their black grandchild but they couldn't. Xzavier was disowned for choosing the family he had created over the family that created him. He missed his brothers and sisters. He missed his parents and cousins, he couldn't even attend his grandmothers funeral. He was completely shunned from his family.
Xzander carefully got out his bed so he wouldn’t wake his sister. School start next week, gotta get as much in as we can this week.
Xzavier grumbled to Xzander, this was also a good distraction for him. Training his son distracted him from the demons in his head.
Xzander pulled a t-shirt, some socks and tennis shoes on before he followed his father out of his bedroom. They’d made their way down the stairs and into the backyard of the new ranch Xzavier had purchased. It was bigger and better than the one they had back in Saint Louis. He still had all of his animals plus more where that’d came from.
