On a beautiful Midwestern June evening in 2017, nineteen-year-old Tanner Scott Ward told his mom, Lisa, he was headed out to see his friend, Jeremiah, and to fix him a plate for dinner because he’d only be gone about thirty minutes. He kissed his baby girl, Sophia, and left on foot with only the clothes on his back.
