    Chapter 1 New Sheriff

The mornings were cold, sometimes the dew would freeze by morning and if you walked through it, you could see your shoe prints and even hear the crunching. Fall had set in a while ago, getting closer and closer to the winter air. It was still warm to a point during the day though reaching to a high near seventy on a good fall day, but at night it would drop down to near thirty degrees. Not too many people came up to the cemetery anymore, not unless they had a reason to.

The mausoleum stuck out like a sore thumb in the cemetery, kids had vandalized it over the years. Spray painting their hateful messages on the sides like they knew the guy by heart, when most only knew him from the stories or rumors that the town had spread. Some being true, other times just to keep the legend around for a profit. One thing that couldn’t be touched was the keypad that was under lock and key. In front of the cement building above the entrance they set his name in stone, Vincent Gray. Kids would come out and sit beside it trying to scare each other to conjure up the soul of Vincent Gray to come back, but that was all a myth.

Some residents of Brownsville had moved away considering the past that had happened in the town. Though new people moved in that knew nothing about Vincent Gray and the past of the town. They would be told stories of what had happened, but that’s all they took it as, town legends to scare people. Nobody believed that a man came back from the dead for revenge, sounded like something in a horror movie. Inside the mausoleum was dark, the only light that came in shined on the top of the casket having to go through some of the spider webs that went across the room from a small window up above.

Nobody had entered the room since the day he was laid to rest. They left it as it was, Ronny and Dixon never entered the room, Sara never came back. They wanted to move on with their lives and start fresh, some getting new jobs and others doing the same thing. The election happened over those three years now the soulless man was put to rest. The new sheriff, which was the deputy at the time Carl Young, now was leading the Police of Brownsville, with Sara working the desk and becoming a police officer herself. She left the library looking for a better paying job, being close to Young she decided protecting people was what she wanted to do and went to school for it.

Emma was now the manager of the local hardware store, with Justin still working as the cashier. Jim still sold houses and made decent money at that with everyone leaving because of what happened with Vincent Gray, new faces in and old out meant more money in Jim’s eyes.

Though everything wasn’t great, just last week Matt Wyatt, Justin’s dad was found dead. They blamed it on his blood pressure medicine, he had taken too much and went into cardiac arrest dying. The way they found the body in the yard of his own house, Justin thought otherwise. There was no way he died that way Justin thought, he had taken the medicine for years. Just one day you wake up before work and drown yourself with blood pressure pills to walk out on your lawn to die? That question was easy, to Justin he was forced to eat those pills and died. Rumors were going around that his dad was part of a drug scheme that was going on in Brownsville. Though Justin didn’t believe it, he had no proof since he didn’t live with his dad.

They all made a new friend as well, Chelsea Lynn. She was a nice country girl but with a spitfire attitude. Chelsea and Justin took a liking to each other and ended up dating, She lives alone in her own house that Jim got her to buy, conned her into either way she liked it. She transferred over to Brownsville to be a manager at the clothes store in town because they was short handed, lucky enough they all met their.

Jim moved his hand slowly down the side of the car using a rag, waxing it slowly so it could shine within the fluorescent lights in the garage. Though it wasn’t his car, it was Black Demon, The Soulless Man’s car. Emma walked into the garage from the house, the garage doors always stayed closed unless it was Sara.

I figured I’d find your ass in here, said Emma in a spunky attitude looking at him then picking up some of the cleaning supply’s putting them in the cabinet.

I don’t know why you even clean that thing, it doesn’t even run anymore. Mom tried to turn it over a couple times since it got here, said Emma sighing some looking at him.

Yeah I know, I even tried changing the battery and alternator everything. I haven’t touch the inside though, said Jim, the stains of blood was still on the steering wheel where the soulless man would always hold on to. Emma looked through the window seeing the dried up blood shaking her head thinking it was gross.

The car is cursed, I don’t even know why my mom kept it to be honest and parked it at our house. Young knows it’s here and he don’t even want nothing to deal with it, said Emma throwing her arms up in the air. Jim looked at the car thinking some putting his hand under his chin.

Maybe, whatever that was in the car left when Vincent did, said Jim looking at her.

See I would believe that in all, but how was the car driving to here in this spot after he left. That makes little sense then, Black Demon here is alive and well just doesn’t have its owner around anymore to tell him let’s roll, said Emma standing in front of it looking the car over as the garage door opened as she jumped some, Justin and Chelsea walked in looking at them.

We just got back from the store and heard you guys in here, what’s going on? Said Justin looking at Jim then Emma.

Justin why is she in here? Jim is just waxing the car is all, said Emma annoyed he let her see the car, Justin nodded his head as Chelsea looked over the car.

Dude this car is so old and cool, can we take it for a ride? Asked Chelsea looking at them all. They kinda looked at each other not knowing what to think but then again she knew nothing about the soulless man being new to the area.

The car don’t run, said Justin looking at Chelsea.

You should let my uncle come and get it, he can have it running in no time man! Said Chelsea excited looking at the car. She looked under the car and then inside seeing the stains on the steering wheel.

What’s on the steering wheel paint? Said Chelsea looking at them curiously.

That’s not paint it’s dried up blood, said Jim as Justin quickly came over punching him in the side as Jim winced in pain looking at him, not wanting him to tell her. Chelsea looked him kinda tilting her head sideways then chuckled some.

Dried up blood? Just say it is paint Jim, do you use it for Halloween or something? Said Chelsea still eyeing over the car.

Halloween? You think this car is a decoration? You do not know who’s car this is do you? Asked Jim in a serious tone as he walked over slowly to a bulletin board they had in the garage. It was filled with newspaper articles about The Soulless Man and Black Demon that they had collected over the years. They all came over, looking over the wall, flashbacks of the years would come rushing into their minds. Justin pointed out a picture of The Soulless Man and his dad in the road, a by stander had took the photo from their phone.

That’s your dad Justin! Said Chelsea shocked at what she was looking at, seeing the article of the car running people over without anybody inside as she slowly looked over to the car, was this the same car she thought.

It’s not alive is it? Asked Chelsea looking at them as Jim shook his head.

No, it hasn’t run in like three years now. Nobody knows why either, we replaced parts, tried everything to get it running but it just doesn’t. So I come out here and just wax it and keep it nice. The least I could do, said Jim as he picked up the rest of the cleaning supplies.

My dad had a run in with The Soulless Man and barely made it out alive, if it wasn’t for sheriff Gray at the time he might have died then, said Justin looking at Chelsea.

Wait, the sheriff that just left office, is he related to Vincent Gray? Asked Chelsea looking at Jim as he nodded yes.

Wow, that’s crazy being related to a murderer. So what do you mean Jim it’s the least you could do by keeping the car clean? Chelsea looked at him confused. Jim looked at the car and got lost in a trance with it, his feelings were always messed up when came to Vincent Gray.

"He killed my dad and I love my dad, but if he would have never picked on the guy at
