The Things You Should Know
By Wendy Connor
Special Stitch
Single crochet join (sc join): Place a slip knot on hook, insert hook in indicated st, yo, pull up a lp, yo and draw through both lps on hook.
Preparing Shower Curtain Ring
Shower curtain rings are sturdy yet very inexpensive, and easy to work around. If your shower curtain ring doesn’t have a big gap, a piece of clear shiny tape can be wrapped around the opening to smooth it out. If your shower curtain ring has a gap in the top made by the opening, tightly wrap a long strand of yarn around that section to fill the gap, then use clear shiny tape over it to make it smooth.
Seamless Join
Pull lp on hook so tail comes out through center of last st. Thread tail onto tapestry needle and run needle under top 2 lps of 2nd st to the left on ring (see photo A) or top 2 lps of indicated st, and then back down through center of last st (from which yarn emerges) and under back lp (see photo B), pulling gently on thread until lps match tension of sk st below, weave in tail on back of ring.
Working Over Ring
With size H hook, sc join (see Special Stitch) color A at top of ring (see illustration), to left of flat section (where opening is), sc tightly around ring to other side of top flat section (about 32 sts or so), work 5 sc (or as indicated) over flat section, join with sl st to beg sc, turn.
Single Crochet Around Ring
Vertical or Horizontal Handles & Knobs
Wrap buttonhole end through cabinet handle, then bring it down and attach it to button, keeping the RS of strap facing, don’t turn it over as you push it through handle (see photo C). If adding a flower, slip flower over button once the towel holder is in place.
This style works on vertical cabinet handles, the side of a horizontal handle or a knob. The flower might be a bit too high when placed on a knob, but you can always make the strap a couple chs longer to make it hang a little lower if needed. ●
Crocheting a Magic Ring
1. Leaving the tail 4 to 5 inches long, wrap the yarn around your index and long fingers on your left hand to form a ring. Let the working yarn cross over the tail on top of your index finger and go to the back (see photo 1).
2. Loosen the ring on your fingers, and grasp the join with your fingers where the two strands overlap (see photo 2).
3. Insert the hook through the ring (see photo 3a) and pull up a loop from the working end of the yarn (see photo 3b). Chain one stitch (see photos 3c and 3d).
4. Single crochet around the ring strand and yarn tail as many times as the pattern states (see photos 4a and 4b).
5. Pull the yarn tail to tightly close the ring center (see photos 5a and 5b).
6. If the
